Anything worth seeing in Fredericksburg VA?

Thinking ‘bout making a trip to Fredericksburg VA to buy a gun (difference in price between shop there and my local shop will pay the gas-splitting with passenger) and was wondering if anybody has suggestions AFA things to see/shops to visit etc while I’m in the area?
Got a passenger interested in silencers, so we plan to visit Combat Solutions (I'm possibly buying the gun from Stockman Sporting Goods through Combat Solutions).

Anybody had any dealings with Combat Solutions? How’s their store AFA browsing? The websites at both places are a bit sketchy-Stockman apparently has no store? but deals through Combat Solutions. Combat Solutions site is sketchy AFA what’s in their store! Fella at Stockman e-mailed me and said "most" of what's on his site is at Combat Solutions except for accessories.

(I do see the NRA headquarters is not too much farther up the road)

Are you a civil war junkie, or a revolutionary war buff? Mainly, it has a few museums and related monuments.

A lot of antique shops along Princess Anne St and Caroline St
Ferry Farms and the Rising Sun Tavern are ok.
 
Well my passenger (a gunsmith) is interested in silencers, and I'm interested in seeing guns, accessories, etc that aren't seen in my neck of the woods (SSG is Class III etc dealer).
'Course I'm open to anything else in the area-probably going to be a 1 day gun related shopping trip unless we see something else worth staying overnite for.

Well, it's a little out of the way, but Clark Brothers Guns over in Opal (Take 17 west to 28, turn right onto 28, and look for the Bear on the roof about 100 yards or so up the road) is worth a visit just to look at the stuff hanging on the walls that's not for sale. They've got a range there too. Rifle, and pistol mostly. You have to use their ammo (sort of expensive) but the range time itself is free, so it more or less evens out. I tend to shoot 22's there. More bangs for the buck. :D

"The Range" is up (North) RT 1 toward Stafford on Potomac Creek Road is an indoor range that rents full auto weapons. I got to shoot a MP-5 there one day that a customer had bought in. Do a search for "The Range" and you can find directions.

You can't swing a cat and not hit a Civil War battlefield if you're interested in that kind of thing. Fredericksburg, Chancelorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House are all in the area.

The NRA museum is worth the trip, but plan on all day.

In the other direction toward Richmond you can visit Greentops. More guns than you can shake a stick at. Fishing tackle, outdoor gear too. DeGoff's in Mechanicsville is just down the road from there. (There's a Gander Mountain across the street from Greentops, but we don't talk about it much.) And of course Richmond has dozens of museums and such. Mostly Civil War and history related.

Eidted to add: The USMC museum is just up 95 at Quantico. I haven't been there yet, but am told it is well worth the trip. My wife and I gotta go up there soon.
 
The Rappahannock River falls line runs right through the town. Get a temp fishing license and a pole for smallies and panfish. Heck, you can even tube it if you want.
 
Neat town. Wife and I went a couple of times when we were living in North Carolina.

Lots of history there.

Marine Corps Museum!!!

You'll see more incredible stuff at the USMC museum just up the road in Quantico than you'd believe. The dioramas are astounding - all the Marines were molded from real Marine volunteers.

Combat Solutions new store front in the industrial park has a lot of tactical gear, holsters, boots, hand cuffs, etc., but they do also have some interesting guns. Not nearly as much as Green Top, and nothing really "sporting goods store"-ish. It won't take that long to see everything they have.
 
Actually, Green Top is in on Rt. 1 south of Ashland and north of I-295. Short Pump is west of Richmond off I-64.

There's a Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg too, but we don't talk about it much either. :)

If you care about courage, see Marye's Heights from the top. Let your mind consider that several thousands of well fed blue suits pushed across the river and onto those slopes as they were fed piece-meal into the sights of a thin band of hungry but skilled gray suits spread along along a fence line at the top. Gen. Burnside's stubborn determination, added to his poor planning, guarenteed a slaughter of massive proportions and he got it. Sad story but worth seeing and contemplating for a few minutes.
 
if you have time check out the small stone warehouse just downstream from chatham bridge, its a museum and archaelogical dig. lots of histort holler if ya need anything when you are up here. got river acess to upper rapahhanock behind the house

Hopefully I'll get to see/touch stuff ya never get to see in the gun stores in a poor town.
As stated, SSG has a good price/stocks a pistol I want, but upon inspection, it doesn't appear he has a brick and mortar store. I e-mailed him and apparently he sells his stuff through Combat Solutions. SSG has some interesting looking stuff on his site-how much of it is at Combat Solutions I can't say (and that's a loooong drive for nuttin')!

AFA suppessors, I have no interest in 'em but my gas paying passenger does-I assume he actually wants to lay hands on a few before going through the hassle/money required to get one?

I bought directly from Stockman at his FFL office in an office building. I did the whole deal over the phone and via email with him directly.

I knew what I wanted and avoided the markup of a gun shop.

I was not aware of any "markup"-by e-mail I understood I could purchase the gun at SSG's site for the price he shows and either have it shipped or pick it up at Combat Solutions. Since use of the local dealer's FFL and shipping costs would 'bout equal gas for the trip, I just figured it would be a way to lay hands on different stuff and the only thing I'm out of is time.

AFA prices, 99% of the time I can get it at my local shop as cheap or cheaper than anywhere (one advantage of living in a poor town?), but he has limited stock if you want to handle something before you buy.
