Are there any places where the pin and weld (permanent attachment of muzzle device to bring barrel length up to 16'') is not legal? I'm thinking a state/city law?
A bit broader response than OP's query - pin and weld isn't an approved method in Canada.
The claimed Canadian standard is only rifled barrel with similar steel for the extension. Realistically that means re-barrelling, since abutting and welding two separate sections of barrel is too dangerous for most rational gunsmiths or users to consider.
Thanks for the replies. I kept it broad out of plain curiosity as to how other places do it. But, more specifically I was thinking of Chicago/Cook County area and/or Illinois.
