It works and it's almost 2 to 1 for stricter laws. Look for the big "Watch and Decide" block above the lady on the range half way down on the right. Looks like we need to get a lot of the membership here and elsewhere to express their opinions.

It's not 2:1 for stricter gun laws.

Rather it's 53% to 47% in favor of either leaving the laws as they are, or making them more lax.

The way the present the poll makes it seem like "WOW, a majority want stricter gun laws." Really, a majority want them either left alone, or reduced.

So keep hitting the poll ;)

Agreed. But that is not how the information will be reported if it ever is.

Just a reminder to copy & paste, not click!

If the tide turns, we don't want them being able to say "the results were marred by a bunch of gun nuts!"

Well, of coruse they'll say it anyway, but they wont have proof! :D

If you watch the video accompanying that poll you'll see that it reports that almost twice as many voted in favor of stricter gun laws.

Now two related questions from me ....

  1. If you think that votes matter, is it a good idea or a bad idea for gun owners to make voters afraid of them?
  2. If you think it's a good idea for gun owners to scare voters, how many scared voters would it take to get the voting public to vote for less strict gun control laws?

:)

The questions are poorly phrased. The gun laws that currently on the books need to be more strictly enforced. If the current laws on the books are NOT going to be enforced, then repeal them. The laws that conflict need to be reconciled, or removed from the books.

As the poll questions are phrased, the results can be spun in any direction.

I VOTED

GO AND VOTE!!!!

Get your friends to vote!!!

the sheeple will not be able to add 2+2 and get 4 to find the real results:banghead:

They will follow the wolf to dinner and guess who'll end up on the menu with them for desert:eek:

The way I see it is that 56% want to keep them as is or less strict while only 43% want them stricter. That isn't bad, given that AOL is the ISP of the sheeple.

But then again, I hardly see any AOL poll as even remotely close to scientific.

The real news here is that for the first time in perhaps decades, the real Gallup poll (not the nonscientific AOL online poll) indicates that the majority of US citizens do not want stricter gun control.

The phrasing sucks. The poll is set up to make it sound like a majority wants more laws passed. Also, what do they mean exactly by gun laws and more strict? Maybe some people think that the laws should be better enforced, or that people who commit crimes with guns should be punished more severely.

the only poll I can find on that page is "what do you trust more, CNN or Fox News, and WHich of the two do you watch more?"

I want the ten minutes back that I wasted reading that useless drivel looking for this poll...

Lies, damn lies and statistics. These polls are merely agenda driven liberal
propaganda to be used to foist more onerous government intrusions on the subjects....I mean citizens.

The "less strict" and "about the same" are winning if you combine them, with morons ahead with more single votes (43% 33% 24%).

This is all about wording. The american public is easily influenced by certain words because they don't think deeply about anything anymore (that would take too much effort). Using the word "strict" is calculated to lead people to select the more gun bans option. No one wants to be seen being against being "strict." In people's minds, strict = good REGARDLESS of the context. Dumb but welcome to modern america and it's "entertain me" culture.

Any honest poll would not use vague words like "strict." An honest poll would ask an upfront question like "should there be more gun bans or fewer gun bans or the current gun bans are just right." Because that's what we're really talking about here are BANS. There's no such thing as "strict gun laws" without bans. When people hear words like "control" they think that applies to SOMEONE ELSE, and sadly they don't care. And like the word "strict," it equals "good" in their mind because they superficially think "how could control, or strict possibly be bad?"
