PLEASE LIMIT THIS TO FIRST HAND ACCOUNTS!!!!

as a long time gun owner, but fairly recently interested in AOW and SBR type stuff, i am curious if anyone has seen prosecution of errant builds. i am not refering to the nidgit walking around the gun show clearly carrying around an SBR and being defiantly ignorant when questioned about his tax stamp. i am refering more to the guy that takes a "rifle" lower to an ar-15 and builds a pistol on it. to look at it, it is legal, but a further investigation of the registration would reveal a violation.

my exact example in mind is my mac 11 RIFLE, i inerrantly remove the stock off it, i though i was legal as i had a 16" barrel, but because i was only 24" overall (instead of 26") and it was not configured to be shot from the shoulder, i was in violation. for me, a simple fix, i put the stock back on. i am certain i am not the first to make such an error in judgement, and just wonder how many people are getting themselves into the hot seat over an error like this. keep in mind, if my weapon would of been registered as a pistol, it would have been legal.

Nor mine. Before I futzed with anything even close to NFA items I learned the laws to the best of my ability. I also don't think you're going to get many people to admit they've violated the NFA on a public website.
