I'm looking at all of my options for my first AR and I've decided on getting the Double Star "20 barrel AR15 with the full stock. I plan on buying all my accessories for it upon my ordering it so if I plan to switch out the full stock with a collapsible M4 stock what else do I need? Is a buffer tube and stock all I'm missing? Thanks for the help.

If you buy a stock it usually, but not always, comes with a tube, spring and buffer.

Be aware though that switching the fixed stock out for a collapsible is going to make the rifle nose heavy.

With the "20 barrel if I switched out the stock hand guard for a lighter weight Magpul MOE hand guard would that help at all? I know y'all have more experience with this than me.

As WA alluded to, you'll need the stock, tube, spring and buffer. All different when going from fixed rifle stock to collapsible carbine. In addition, a castle nut, end plate, and tool for tightening the castle nut will be needed.

Switching the handguard will not reduce the weight much if at all.

You could always get a Magpul UBR stock. It has to be the heaviest collapsible I've seen. Solid though, and pricey. When collapsed, it will probably still be a bit front heavy, but not as bad as with a standard M4 style stock.

Take a look at Brownell's video:http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=10364/GunTechdetail/Changing_Standard_Butt_Stock_To_Collapsible

Why is "front heavy" a bad thing? Helps dampen recoil and aids follow-up shots.

If being front heavy was a real problem, we'd not have quad rails and all the crap hanging off them!

That's why I have a carbon FF tube with nothing attached. :)

A 16" HB is heavy enough, ugh.

That's a good idea.

I have a 20" HBAR That I've had a collapsible stock on but have since taken off.

I've been trying to find an inexpensive stock with a battery compartment as I saw that they make a lead stick that fits in them.

I think that would work nicely and would balance out the rifle well.

They aren't too front heavy as long as you stick with a UGSI or pencil bbl profile. Its the heavier medium contour or HBARs that really throw the balance out of whack, it gets worse if you add a quad rail and and try to turn it into a swiss army knife...
