I was at one of the farm stores down in Larryville and they had a big shelf of the Aquilla 22 bricks for 59.99. Is that stuff worth it?
Just curious because on the regular ammo shelf the 333 round Winchester 22 is 19.99 so, doing the "math",... it's cheaper. o_O

Aquila has always worked for me.

Edit to add: When I wrote this, I, perhaps erroneously, believed the OP's concern was ammunition quality. As it seems price is the concern, let me add I agree that the refered to price seems pretty high.

Not when you can find cci standard for $25 on sale and around $40 regular.

I've shot aguilla and it works and I've got some great groups out of it but i like my cci standard more. Aguilla makes some higher end stuff like super extra or something like that so you might be paying for target loads.

It’s decent ammo, but that’s not cheap.

Locally, I’ve been seeing bricks of CCI Blazer for $25-30 and bricks of CCI Standard for $30-40 which has always been more accurate for me than Aguila or anything but match grade ammo.

You talking 500 round bricks, right? If so, that is way expensive.
I got these not too long ago. Aguila .22 SuperExtra, .22LR, HVSP, 40 Grain, 500 Rounds for 23.79 at Sportsmans Guide.

Shanghai McCoy

Have used Aquilla ammo in the past; it's okay but not at that price. Prefer CCI Standard Velocity which the last time i bought some was under $40 a brick. Not a big fan of the Winchester 333 bulk ammo either.

I like it and my 60 and 10/22 group well with it . Whether it is worth it is , if your .22 likes it . I would try one box first .

Right now, there is no way that I would give $60/500 of Aguila anything, except Interceptor or SSS. The 22LR drought is over. It's available in store and online everywhere and some is actually being discounted.

It is rumored that Aquilla has had a management shuffling. My LGS will not stock it because of the high wholesale price and resulting lower margin. Who knows?
I still have about 3000 rounds from good old days.

Last week MidwayUSA had CCI SV bricks for $24.99. Today they're $28.99. At those prices I will buy the CCI stuff every time over just about anything else on the market.

$60 per brick is scalper pricing from 5 years ago.

It is what I use almost exclusively. The 40gn super extra. I saw the 500 round bricks at my nearby Cabelas for $30. Which is the same that I pay at a local shop so I walked on by. I will give my cash to the local guy.

500-575 quantities of various brands have been around $20-23 at WalMart and Academy lately in Houston.

A local hardware store here bought a BUNCH of Aguila .22lr ammo just before the election. They priced it at $50.00+ per brick. after the election they still had most of it and I was in there last week and they still do at the same price.
They may be stuck with it for awhile. I just bought 5000 rounds online for $21.00+/- per 500.

I did get sucked into buying a few bricks at the "sale" price at the store for .$45.00+/- just before the election and was glad to get it.

It may be just me and my managerie of .22 guns, but I have fewer problems with the Federal bulk pack 36 gr copper plated hollowpont 1260fps than with the other carton bulk pack.

Back in the Great .22 Ammo Drought I bought Aguila in the 50 round boxes but never sprang for the $60+ carton of ten boxes. I admit the Aguila was good ammo. Now that CCI MiniMag is on the shelves locally, I'll go for that instead.

There are bricks , and then there are bricks.
In a discussion of this type it really helps to break it down to price per round.

Yes but stock has still generally been poor at the stores I can visit when out for other reasons, with uncertain stock its not worth taking a chance on a trip only for ammo.

Over the past four months I've restocked from various on-line vendors at these prices. Not back to where I was before the great shortage, but now I can totally continue wait for "sales" on brands I prefer.

Aguila is advertised as Eley Primed.* In spot checking the discarded ammo box at the club, I have seen a lot of .22 brands discarded with one or two firing pin strikes. I can't recall seeing any with an "A" headstamp.

These periodic droughts are a pain. Back in the 1950s and 1960s we could count on buying ammo on the trip to the old homeplace on the mountain. Starting with the anti-gun rhetoric leading up to the 1968 GCA, I decided to maintain a five-year supply; besides since the ammo sellers had keep a bound book record (1968-1986), I figured I may as well buy a brick rather than a box. I went through the recent droughts using my stockpile, and have been able to wait until resupply was available at reasonable prices. But these recent droughts have been a pain even with preparation.

Are you saying you think Aguila is cheaper than the Winchester in your scenario? Because the Aguila is twice a as much. $.12/rd for .22 is something I refuse to pay. I can load plated 9mm for .10/rd.

I shoot it but I order it online and have it shipped. It's better than most of the cheap ammo out there. CCI SV is probably the best, Aquila a close second. I keep about 5K on hand just because I don't like wasting a bunch of time searching for ammo.

Looks like it's about .045 a round per 5000 here. Add $10 to ship it.

That is/ was a Hillary will get elected price; today’s post 2016 election results price should be about half that amount.
