Which way around does the A2 aperture go in the rear sight?

There's a concave area on the long range aperture, should it face toward me, or away?

on my LMT BUIS, the concave part faces you. I've seen a couple aftermarket aperatures that advertised that the long range aperature was flat instead of concave. Supposedly, the flat surface is less likely to reflect light into your eyes than the concave surface.

I would think the reason for the concave part facing away from you would be to act as a funnel to allow more light to enter into your eye through the peep.

That's my thinking too, but AR-15 apertures do not appear to be designed this way. It seems counterintuitive.

Anybody know why?

It helps to reduce the glare and reflection coming off the aperture which would hinder your sight picture. Same reason why they make hooded apertures.
