Hello folks. I built an AR-15 and everything checked out barrel nut torque, gas tube and gas block alignment, headspacing, and all of the sordid little details. However i start shooting my new marvel of engineering, after 250 rounds the gas rings are worn to almoast nothing and need to be replaced, the upper has worn areas in the aluminium (tracks were the bolt has been riding in) i am saying to myself it has been only 250 rounds how could all of this happen? Is it normal to see this kind of wear? :confused:Should i replace gas rings, is it critical, and are they supposed to wear so quickly? My first AR-15 yes, everythings is to speck my friend is a certified gunsmith and he helpped me build it and inspected it before firing. It fed, extracted and fired perfectly every time except one failure to fire but it was a bad primer (ammo failure) not the firearm. Any help or advice would be nice.

pictures of the wear you are describing would help. How do you know the gas rings are worn to almost nothing?

250 rounds is a bit early for the gas rings to be getting loose. What brand parts did you use? Assembled using correct tools/methods per the TM? Does it function correctly now? Gunsmith certified by who?
Sounds a bit harsh, but those questions need to be asked.

He told me they were probably crappy rings. As far as everything else goes is normal to see the anodizing of the aluminum upper worn by the bcg after 250 rounds?

If they are truly worn out I would look at the inside of the bolt carrier. If it functions reliably with them I wouldn't be too concerned.
Did you use micrometers on them?
As mentioned above you need to post some pictures.
