Hey guys I have a question. My AR-15 gas rings keep going bad. I have put maybe 1500 rounds through it and I have had to replace the gas rings 3 times already. I keep the rings staggered and lubed along with the carrier. Has anyone had this problem? It is a surplus BCG. Should I scrap it and just buy a Daniels Defense or other high end BCG? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First, there is no need stagger them.
It will either work with the ring gaps aligned.
Or it won't.
If it won't, there is something else wrong with the gun.
Now.
You aren't by chance taking them off the bolt to clean all the carbon out every time you shoot it??
If so, Don't Do That!!

You bolt carrier is so roughly machined it is wearing them out prematurely.
The only answer to that is to replace the bolt carrier with one that is properly machined and reamed.

Are you using the same gas rings each time? If so you might try another batch.
Is the inside of the carrier machined correctly?
Have you ever measured the before and after dimensions and confirmed that they are worn out?
I can honestly say that I have only worn out 1 set. They last a long time.

I have no idea the brand name of the gas rings I'm using. I guess my bolt carrier is out of spec or something. I have not been taking them off to clean them. I think I'm going to spring for a Daniel Defense BCG when I can find one in stock. Thanks for the help.

What do you mean by "going bad?"
The bolt should be able to support the weight of the carrier. Just pull the bolt out of the carrier a 1/2", then stand the BCG on the bolt head. Carrier should not slide down on the bolt. Put some Magic Marker, Prussian Blue, anything you have that is really thin, on the chromed surface the gas rings run on. Cycle the bolt in and out for about 50 strokes and see where the coating is worn away. Should be almost all gone, if you get only half of it worn, you probably have an out of round bore.
I had one that would eat up a set of rings in less than 100 rds. Pieces would be missing etc. I put a 1-piece McFarland ring in and now have over 1500 rds thru it with no further problems. I think the interior of the carrier is improperly machined, but it works now with no problems and as long as it works I'm not messing with it anymore.

Yeah, & I tried a one Piece ring from Brownells that went sour in less than a hundred rounds. Thing was/is (threw it in the junk pile to remind self to not try gimmicks!) so loose that the bolt will retract by itself if the assembly is held upright.
Put the old rings back in the Colt and am still using them to this day........rifle & all parts date to the early '80's!

If your carrier is chewing up your gas rings, the problem is not the rings.

So it's a GI M-16 carrier? Is it surplus as in government over-run or sold off un used spares or surplus as in "used" GI parts which got pulled and sold after an age or tolerance limit had been reached?
Who are you getting the rings from?
How smooth is the chrome bore wearing surface inside the carrier?
