AR-15 Dilema...I'm lost

I am considering the M4 lightwt "government profile" barrel (chrome lined?), (1:7or1:9?), mid length rail handguards. permanent front sights or folding? How important is a "co-witness" with optics?
jeez, it's enough to make a guy pull his hair out.

Colt 6920, TRijicon TriPower with Larue cantilever mount and Troy flip up BUIS.

I prefer the fixed front sight as it's one less thing you have to screw with should you really need it. IF you set up your rifle with a lower 3rd co-witness, the fixed front sight is a non-issue, you won't even notice it's there. One feature I really like about co-witnessing is the ability to quickly check your optics zero with your irons.

I have 2 RRA AR's, Build on CMMG Lowers. A NM Grade and an Entry Tactical. If you're looking for a M4 style rifle, I recommend the Entry Tactical, add a set of railed hand guards and you're in buisness, never a single issue with my rifle. I have Knights Armament Carbine RAS system... if you have a clue who I am, you know why I have Knights Armament Rails ;) Fixed front sight is the way to go, not as tacti-cool, but if you loose the optic and you don't have or break the BUIS you aren't totally screwed in a SHTF situation.

As for Optics... Aim Point Comp M4, powered by a AA battery, best 1x scope on the market.

Entry Tacticals run about $1000, Aim Point about $650, Rails run between $100-400 depending on what you want. Check Ebay for the Rails, I've seen some GI stuff on there pretty cheap, along with broom sticks, lights and optics.

Nobody want's to tell you that to have a good entry level AR-15, from a QUALITY Manufacture, you're going to dish out some $$$$$$

Currently, someone is selling a new Colt AR6721, which is a 16" heavy barrel with a collapsable stock and detachable carry handle for $1150.

That's a decent price for the AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine, but the rifle dosen't match up too well with:

I am looking for primarily target shooting, tactical practice, and possibly some hunting. My budget is $1000-$1200, I would like to keep the total price under this price range (excluding the sights).

For what you want to do, there's no need to be paying a premium for a heavy barrel with a telescoping stock and a detachable carry handle. That's the worst of both worlds. If you want a lightweight carbine with the telescoping stock and a carry handle, get the 6520, or if you want target accuracy go with some kind of 20 inch 6600DH analog. I tend to doubt that the compromise solution will make you really happy. You sound like you'd be most pleased with some brand of full length bbl/stock flattop.
