AR-15 DMR Riflescopes

What would be a good DMR type riflescope for me? I'm trying to decide between the Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T M2 Illum. Reticle, Rapid Reticle RR-CQLR-1 with Rapid Ranging, and the us optics sn4 and sn4s.

Illuminated reticles with bdc and adjustable magnification are preffered. So far I'm leaning to the leupold.

My personal preference would be a scope that has a 1 power and not the 1.5. That narrows it down to two of them. Of those I like the PFI more with the rapid reticle.

I have to entertain the question though. Have you heard/though about vortex?

They make some great stuff and the glass is FANTASTIC. People have run them through pretty torturous conditions. Here's a part of there warranty: "We will repair or replace your Vortex product for any reason at NO CHARGE TO YOU. It doesn't matter how it happened, whose fault it was, or where you purchased it. You can count on the VIP Warranty for all riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes and monoculars."

My personal preference would be a scope that has a 1 power and not the 1.5. Therefore my first choice would be the vortex razor and then the PFI.

While not in the same league as your options I have the Leupold Mk AR 1.5-4 on my Noveske and I really like it. The Mk4 would add a little higher magnification and illum which would be nice.

I was going to suggest the Nightforce line but I see you already saw them.

Really any of them are great pieces of glass.

I think the 1-5 ish powered scopes are great for more of a Recon Rifle than a true Designated Marksman Rifle. I think a DMR should have a higher mag scope such as a 3-10 variable.

I had a 4x ACOG on my DMR in the Army and while it was far better than the issued Aimpoint for distant shooting, I would have prefered a good higher magnification variable for distance shooting and target ID.

I was thinking the same thing, C-Grunt, but not being military I didn't want to tread on anyones toes.

Even at 100 yards 6x doesn't seem like too much magnification. I have sort of a civilian DMR and went with a 20" barrel and the Leupold 3-9 Mark AR Mil-Dot. I think it's a well balanced set-up.

I have the Mark AR 6-18x on my AR10 and am pretty happy. I did have the conversion made to the elevation turret for my current load from the stock 55gr 5.56 load it was built for--thought thats a really cool feature from Leupold and I am sure they can do it for any of their scopes. I admittedly have not used the high end scopes like others listed (nightforce, etc) but I have absolutely no problems with my accuracy out to 300 yards so far. Thats the furthest I have stretched it out to yet but will go further soon enough once I join my local range.

Don't overlook the 2.5-10 Nightforce. I have one on my SPR and it's about perfect out to 500. After that, the 223 is my limfac not the optics.

Ditto on the NF 2.5-10X32. It has a nice low end, more than adequate top end and is pretty compact for what it is. It helps to make for a nice manageable package.


This rig was the most versatile rig I've ever built. It carried easily and shot very well.

the NF 2-10 is great
the NF 1-4 sucks. worst glass i've ever owned.

lots of companies are making cool 1-8 and 1-10x type stuff now. S&B has a new short dot out like that. of course, the USO is very nice.

I've used the z6i 1-6x swarovski for several years now and though heavy, it is great
