The Leupold Mk4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M2 Illuminated Reticle comes with 1/2 MOA clicks.

Questions:

  • Does the 1/2MOA clicks make it harder to zero then if it came with 1/4MOA clicks?

  • Supposedly it is a good sniper scope, but if it is harder to zero because of the 1/2MOA clicks, how can it be any good?

  • Also I thought I read somewhere that this scope require batteries for the illumination, is that true?

With 1/2 MOA elevation/windage adjustments, the most your zero would be off at 200 yards is about 1/2" up/down/left right .... is that a problem? If you were shooting at a 1/2 MOA target, you could hold off on the appropriate edge. I have one of the Mark 4s with M3 knobs which means 1 MOA elevation and 1/2 MOA windage adjustments so I'm giving up some precision for speed.

1/2 MOA at say 1000 yards is close to 5". A typical man-sized target might be 6ft tall by 2ft wide.

Yes, the illuminated Leupold Mark 4s use a DL 1/3N battery 3.0V lithium battery. All of mine arrived with Duracell DL 1/3N batteries ... they're hard to find in stores so it's best (cheapest) to order them online in packs of six. I have four illuminated Mark 4s so a six pack works for me.

* What distance do .308 snipers typiclly zero their rifles for?

Good question .... try doing a search on Sniper's Hide. I'm not a sniper but I zero most of my rifles for 200 yards.

:)

At closer distance, 100 yds, the 1/2" adjustment may not allow dead center on a target, windage wise. I have one one that will zero slightly right or left depending on whether I move it one way or the other. Doesn't bother me, but it's something to be aware of.

Nice scope... it's what I have on my SEI M21A5 EBR.
