Why do milspec AR-15 iron sights like made by LMT or Dueck defense have a spring-loaded peep mount that keeps tension to the left or counterclockwise instead of straight ahead or centered in the area of play? Thus the inner circumference of the peep opening is not perpendicular with the line of sight \------------ so to speak.

They're all this way- that's normal- and not just from the mfg's you mentioned. They're designed to be rugged, not sub-MOA. However, the service rifle crowd who do shoot them sub-MOA often have them pinned into the receiver.

thank you for your reply I thought I was being over picky or unlucky cuz I have three sets like this now... How can you pin them in the center ? It just seems weird to me that something as basic and important as an iron sight is not pointed straight ahead

Well, the cant doesn't affect accuracy beyond what they're intended for. John Hollinger of White Oak Armory pins the sights on his service rifles. Essentially, they're aligned properly (I assume in a proprietary jig), a hole is drilled through the rear sight base and into the top of the receiver, and a pin is tapped into the hole, thus locking it in place. I have one of his rifles- it's not noticeable unless you're looking for it. Unfortunately, I'm not much better with the tricked out upper versus a mil-spec A2 upper and I think it was wasted on me. I'd love to have the time to improve those skills though.

Here's WOA's pinned receiver.
