AR-15 Magazine Magazine

That's actually an interesting concept. It look a bit awkward when they went prone, but I guess you could always roll to your side a smidgen. My only concern is the spent magazines... speaking as a cheap b***ard, I don't want to throw away magazines like that, so traditional pouches should, IMO, be used with this system.

The race is on: We need a magazine magazine magazine. I mean, those look fairly large, how am I supposed to carry more than one?

Either way, I imagine a mag-pouch would be faster, but I'm not a super ultra tactical high speed low drag badass green beret special forces spetsnaz Delta Force mall ninja 0p3r4tor, so I may be wrong.

I am just planning on having an extra mag sticking out of my back jean pocket. Really tactical stuff. :D

Kudos to the inventor for coming up with an original idea that will probly make him/her/them a truckload of money.

That said, how is it really any better, faster, easier, etc than a plain old pouch that holds 3 mags, costs less (I'm assuming here, but pretty confident in the assumption), and doesnt have anything in it to fail at a bad time (supports, springs, etc)?

I always liked the "duct tape one mag to the other" style of extra magazine carrying. ;) But then again, I shoot AKs, not ARs.

It's cool, but like Hoplophile says, it looks a bit on the bulky side to me. I'm not a rifleman, so I have no practical experience with either the FAST system or the more traditional mag/dump pouch. I would be interested to see them run side-by-side, and see which technique/system was found to be the easiest.

I'd like to see what happens when it's hit. If the mags jam, then it's DOA.

During my time in the military we simply ducttape to mags together with a empty cartridge as spacer between them, goes a long way, and another similar setup in each mag pouch. 30 shots, fast switch between taped mags, another 30, switch with another couple similarly setup in a mag pouch and you are good to go for another 60 fast shots. not all that often you need more than 60 shots in that short order, and usually you have your battlebuddy to cover for you while you change mags.

sprithitler, was your rifle the AK5? What was your experience with it? Did you find it to be reliable and accurate enough for you?

I wonder how much it weighs? Does it weight as much as a 4th mag or more? It certainly appears to take up that much space. In that respect, I would think it not be the best alternative.

However, it is a neat idea. Do you think he'll have the double stack version out soon? :)

This is a really nifty idea but I think it is too bulky considering it only holds 3 mags. It may become popular with competition shooters though
(or maybe not; my point is, I see it more suited to competition than combat).

Exactly was I was thinking! :)

During my conscripted service i used the AK5 (FN FNC) and it never once failed to fire for me. The Accuracy of the gun was never the limiting factor, it outperformed me by a reasonable margin.
During my time in hemvärnet (Voluntary government controlled militia) i had a AK4 (H&K G3) in the wardrobe, this gun was also (in my experience) reliable and accurate, probably more accurate than the AK5. I liked both guns and shot several thousand rounds with each. Unfortunately the fear of the EBR makes it virtually impossible to buy any fun guns in sweden, though it is possible to buy certain semiautomatics and trick them out.

Cool idea, but I agree with.....

IMO, it's just more equipment with moving parts, that could possibly fail at the worst possible time.

This thing is just way too tactical for me.

I mean, I'm probably the only heathen on this earth still running an M4gery with iron sights and no rail system...

I don't even have a sling for it (yet)...

I'll just stick with my PMAGs and a simple pouch, thank you...

If I had an M4gery, that's how I would run it. Like I said, my idea of tactical involves duct tape. :p

+1 Avenger

Same here...well almost. I don't have an M4gery, but a midlength RRA with iron sights, no rails, no sling.

Interesting idea and no doubt will sell to the mall ninja crowd. I guess I don't have a need for it, as most of the time my spare mags are in my backpack (@range) or one in my back pocket.

Also, I've always wondered about Mr. MilspecMonkey and why his opinion of gear means anything. I've seen stuff that has 'been reviewed by Mil Spec Monkey and thought - so what? I guess I would be more inclined to listen to the opinion of some of the guys here on THR that I know shoot and know their stuff. (ie B. Roberts, Zak Smith, etc.)

I put a Lee Enfield SMLE sling on my plain jane midlength.

It fits, it is green.

However, I probably just failed tactical 101.

Hmmm, I guess you could call this a metamagazine... :D

If you want to be able to just grab the rifle and go, I can see the utility in "jungle clipping." I shoot an AK, and for me, I'd rather have the extra weight off the rifle and in a mag bag or on the belt.

Also, I'd think having to remove a doubled magazine, reverse it, and stick it back in would be slower than whacking the empty mag out with the new one and rocking the new one in.

It just boils down to personal preference, I suppose.

lmfao....i know the feeling...

+1, except to add that when I see Milspecmonkey I automatically dismiss the item as Mall Ninja crap and move along.

6 years in the Infantry, ammo pouches and the occasional duct-taped-together magazine served just fine.
