AR 15 noise reduction?

Thanks for the all the positive responses, very helpful. She already uses custom made ear plugs and expensive ear muffs.

As near as I can recall when I was in the military (early 60's) we shot M 14's without ear plugs and eye protection. Probably one of the reasons I have tinnitus.

Professor- Which is louder the smaller barrel or the 20 incher?

The 14.5 is much louder.

Just stick the gun into a watermelon before each shot. It worked on TV.

I use a KAK blast can on my Ruger American .223 bolt action rifle. It does NOT "silence" of "muffle" the blast at all, it just redirects the sound down-range. From behind the trigger, it's a good bit less obnoxious.
