so I put a few scratches in my lower and buffer tube putting it together... what do you recommend I use to paint the scratches? thanks, Johnny

I wouldnt bother fixing them, its gonna get nicked up. Looks good on an AR

But if you want to I would use Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black.

+1^^

It's gonna get dinged up anyway and those marks are there because you "did it yourself"! Take pride in the accomplishment and just learn from your mistakes! :D

The aluminum black is good stuff. I've also had good luck with Rustoleum Engine Enamel (The clear coat engine enamel can be quite useful too)

I have hi temp spray paint... I used to convert my Saigas... would anyone recommend using this?

BBQ grill paint works fine on my Saiga conversions. Even better if you can bake it on the receiver a bit. The barrel takes care of itself.

Birchwood-Casey touch-up pen. Use the "Super Black" flat black.

With careful application you can make those small marks disappear. Use a tooth pick to apply for those tiny marks or scratches. Use the felt tip on the pen for larger areas.
Here's a pair of uppers I picked up at a swap meet for $60 for the pair. Both had marks on the shell deflector, around the ejection port, around the charging handle and just general scratches from wear and tear. Strictly cosmetic damage that touched up with a little work.

The flat top had some casting flash behind the barrel nut threads, enough that you could cut your hand if not careful. I think that's one reason the guy was getting rid of them. Took just a minute to grind the flash off and touch up, never know it was there now.
