I think it is always a good idea to clean a new gun barrel before shooting it.
I bought a new Win Model 70 Sporter and the found the bore was loaded with a rouge like compound, evidently from bore lapping at the factory. I guess it must not have got cleaned or test fired. Only new gun out of the maybe 90-something that I have bought over the years that had something in the bore, but I am glad I checked.
I am of the clean, shoot, clean again at the end of the shooting session camp.
BTW, RRA advises the above.
