Anyone had problems with rear sight on a AR 15 The sight is on a detachable handle on a RRA
mine is almost all the way to the left is that normal for them to be one way or the other ? and what is the best sight for these guns ??

You might want to check and see if your front sight isn't straight, it may need to be turned slightly on the barrel. How is the rear sight as far as height/elevation?

Yes, that's very likely your front sight that's off. The easiest way to fix that would be rotate the while barrel to the right. It's probably just using up all the slack towards the left when it got tightened. You can file the notch in the receiver a little if there's no play. If you don't have a receiver block and barrel wrench, you'll need to take it to A smith that works on ARs. It's like a 15 minute fix.

If you can sight it in and want to leave it like that, it won't hurt anything and will work fine. You just won't be able to compensate for a wind drift to the right.

Is the body of the handle centered on the rail? Not familiar with the configuration of the attaching lower portion of the various detachable handles by all the makers. I'm thinking it could be like a Weaver-like attachment where one side is fixed and the other side clamps.

My RRA upper's carry handle rear sight is slightly off-center as well. I've noted it, and added it to my list of things to address. Unfortunately, it is pretty much at the bottom of that list, as the gun shoots fine, I don't use windage adjustments with this upper, and I have bigger things to worry about.

At this point I should get around to it in the late fall of 2174.

its on as far as up and down and shoots fine just off to left on rear, not quite all the way but close
is there a better option? or set up

If you're inclined to fiddle, perhaps you can insert some sort of 'spacer' in the weaver clap that would lead it to sit less off-center. That, or see if the front sight post is crooked.

Thanks for some ideas and Coronach who is gonna get around to fixing his in the year 2187 or what ever
just lasking for opinions and if thats normal ?? just when You thank there is no stupid questions there is always somebody to remind you that apparently there is !!!!!!

When I re-built the front end of my AR, I had used a Yankee Hill folding front and Swan ARMS #40L folding rear. These pretty much attach like a Weaver in that they are fixed on one side. When everything was assembled, the rear sight was cranked (almost, about ½ turn short of maximum) all the way to the left. The problem was as Coronach and I mention.

My fix was to shim the right side of the front sight (where the sight touched the base).

To get more room on the left side of your rear sight, you can shim the rear sight to the left.

Oh, I wasn't implying that your question was stupid at all. It's completely unstupid, and if you need the ability to make windage adjustments on your AR, or want to have stuff 'just so', it's worth getting fixed.

I, however, don't (at least on this upper), and so fixing it is a low priority for me.

There is a published mil-spec on how many clicks to the left or right of mechanical zero is acceptable before sending the rifle to the armorer for service. I think it's 10 clicks in either direction, but don't quote me. There should be in the neighborhood of 80 clicks total from one side to the other so I would say that something is not right. You should ask this question over on AR15.com.
