My favorite rear sights are a couple removable milspec carry handles I chopped down. I still have all the advantages of the A2 rear sight including the elevation wheel plus now there's plenty of rail exposed for red dot sights. Cowitnessing was a piece of cake.

Sure they don't flip down but that's not necessary and they are way stronger than any flip up/down BUIS.

And since I already had a collection of old carry handles there was zero cost for a BUIS exactly like LMT charges $120 apiece for.

if you need a folder, troy is pretty much the only way to go.. the ones you've listed are not considered very good options

I'm no expert on tactical sights; but if your running a back-up, that means the primary has failed, and you're in the middle of something...so why would the current-issue be a small hole, instead of the larger 0-200 type diameter?

None of the above, ^2. I disagree however on what the replacement should be. I own a Troy rear sight, and while it's pretty good, the locked "up" position is not as firmly locked as I like. I recently got to play with a rear Magpul MBUS and I believe it is equally functional for half the money, even if less sexy since it's plastic. I would get MBUS and put the saved money into your optic or ammo.

FWIW, I also own a DPMS Mangonel. It's a cool design, but it is the wrong height (too low) to properly match up with an "F" height front sight base, which is a fatal flaw. With the front sight cranked to the very bottom of its travel, it kinda sorta works. Apart from that it's OK, but I suspect the Troy or MBUS would be more durable if banged around with the sight in the "up" position. The DPMS Mangonel is way overpriced for what it is.

If you are stuck on those three, and you really should not be, the YHM and GGG are likely to be equally functional and durable, but neither does anything more useful than the MBUS.

Troy, Matech, Midwest Industries and Magpul in that order. Of the ones you listed I would rather just keep my money for something else.

I prefere Troy.

I think they have a new mini sight. Well mini when it's folded down. I wouldn't jump on any flip up BUIS right now as long as you can trust your optic for a few months LOLz.

There are a few good ones coming out.

how do these all fit behind an Eotech? I should get a backup considering I went to the range the other day and the batteries were dead on me. Luckily a guy there had a flashlight with AA's or I would have been trucking it to a gas station for batteries.

The AA battery model EOTechs (512 and 552) don't leave a lot of rail space for anything else. I do have a DPMS Mangonel sitting behind one, but only barely and only with the front of the EOTech sitting slightly over the handguards (I switched from M4 to MOE handguards on this gun and was able to push the EOTech one notch forward as a result, which helped). You may want the most compact BUIS you can get, and at the moment I would suggest the Troy for that. If you have a quadrail or a riser under the EOTech you can put it a couple positions farther forward and then any BUIS should fit.

I should have the Magpul rear MBUIS sometime this week. I had my doubts I am dealing with a tight space below a scope. Hope it fits. If not a friend has an extra Matech that I can pick up if needed.

Have heard the Matech can get hung up on gear and broken a tad bit to easy for my taste but I like the looks and function.

I disagree, all of the ones he's picked out are high end options in the same league as the Troy, so its pretty much a wash. That said, these being 'backup' sights, I'd save some money and get the Magpul MBUS....it'll do the job for a lot less.

MagPul work fine if all you are looking for is a back up sight. The one problem I had is that when folded, they are tall. I ended up with the YHM since they are the shortest BUIS when folded and I had space issues.

No they are not.

Now back to the Magpul sights. The new ones are of a lower profile than the old style. So make sure you check out which generation you pick up if you are worried about it fitting under a Scope.

DPMS is high-end only in price. And I own one.

The GGG compares well to Troy. The YHM is not far behind but probably not 100% in the same league as those two.

Matech.
I also use a Daniels Defense fixed A1 rear BUIS on my Canadian C7A2 clone.
It is basically an all metal copy of the polymer Canadian back up sight and very good.
