Ar-15 Sp-1??

I have a Colt AR-Sp1 which I bought about 25 years ago for $350. Fortunately for me the AR-15 platform has improved and the rifle has appreciated in value. What I would really like is a flat top with a heavy barrel. Since my main interest in the the platform is for shooting as accurately as possible, is there any compelling reason to keep it?? It is a decent gun but I've never been particularly impressed with it. Is it just collector interest that has driven the price up or is there something about it that makes it more accurate, dependable or desirable than something like a S&W M&P 15, DPMS or Bushmaster? Lastly I'll pose a loaded question what offers the most bang for the buck in the $1,000 - $1250 range in terms of features, accuracy and dependability?

Well it's sort of a niche area but one thing about the SP1's is they work with the Lightning Link device so if you wanted to sell it the NFA market would be a target potentially.

agreed. sell the SP1 to someone with collecting or NFA plans and buy the heavy barrel rig you want.
