AR backplate/sling adapter question

I was using my stepdads little vise table thing this weekend to try and get that castle nut off so I can swap out the backplate for this nice ambidextrous Daniel defense sling swivel. That nut is on there pretty good and I couldn't get it off, but I also noticed that the new backplate is for an m16a2, it came with a plug and a big screw.

now I have a stag model 2 m4gery. are back plates interchangeable between these two platforms, or did I make a rookie mistake?

Rookie mistake.
You can't use an A2 single sling adapter on a collapsing stock assembly.

Hey, the collapser type single sling plate I use is made by Brownells, they don't look like much but the part is excellent.
It sits in the right place so it doesn't interfere with anything and you can use it with snap link attached slings or conventional web and loop slings.
