The bolt catch will not engage on an empty magazine...I believe it is because the spring is way too stiff. It is difficult to make it engage with your finger even.

I ordered a replacement spring/detent from Brownells, and a punch kit to get the roll pin out. Is there anything I need to watch out for??? Looks like it may just shoot out of there if I take the pin out too fast.

thanks

Is the catch binding up in any way? That sounds strange that a little spring could be causing such a problem as most magazine springs are strong enough to overcome a lot.

Drift the pin out, remove the spring and check to see how freely the catch moves without the spring. Might just need a little work with a file.

I don't have the punch set yet, but that is the plan. I tried a little Kroil, thinking that may do the trick, but it seems that the spring is just really strong. It moves without a hint of binding. If it is still a problem, I'll replace the whole shooting match with an upgrade.

I got everything in the mail last night. Took me about 2 minutes to replace the spring. The old spring is way too long and the wire was of a heavier gauge than the replacement. Works like a charm now.

This was a kit gun(I got from original owner), and the lower is from Adams Arms with a replacement CMMG trigger. Don't know how this spring got in there...I installed an ambi safety as well.
