It appears as though the bolt in my AR is cracking where the extractor pin goes through. The manufactor in question had some issues with their suppliers sending them bolts that where not properly heat treated around the time I got my rifle. ( Oct 09) I just noticed it last night when i was cleaning it.

What are your opinions?
doesnt it appear to be cracking?

Thanks,
-Matt

The bolt is stamped " WTA ". I've already stopped using it. It was with a Del-ton rifle kit i bought a year ago. They have admitted that a supplier during that time was not properly heat treating the bolts, but not all during that time were bad. Thanks for the reply, I am sending them an email with the pictures to see where to go from here.

Before you even mentioned the name, I knew it would be Del-Ton. Give them a call on Monday, give them the serial number, and they'll send you probably a whole new bolt carrier group.

I had a lug break off of my 7.62x39 AR bolt, never noticed it until the next time I took it apart for a good cleaning, could have been 1 round or 1000+ fired since it broke.

Had the cam pin break on my 7.62x25 bolt, again never noticed it until cleaning, since it only shoots corrosive ammo it gets cleaned every time, so it could have been 1 to 350 rounds fired since it broke. Also had the extractor pin break on my 7.62x25 AR this caused stovepipes and the first failures for this gun.

I replaced the broken parts and got back to shooting them. If you've never broken a gun, you just ain't been shooting enough!

Technically, that's the extractor pin where the crack is.

AR bolts usually eitehr break a lug off by the extractor or break at the cam pin hole. The bolt is under strength for the stress it gets and and breaks. It's a known problem with the Stoner designed AR type rifles.

Which is why you should have a spare bolt for any AR you might actually need.

+1 on BravoCompany, quality to the spec parts there. Get the whole carrier group, you wont be sorry.

Just wanted to update: Del-Ton replied to my Email monday, I sent them the bolt tuesday, and I had the new one waiting in my mailbox thursday. They apologized and gave the spill about the bad batch of bolts etc. Excellent customer service. It also helps living < 100 miles from them.

glad it was resolved quickly. it happens to good and bad mfgs. no matter what field you're in, it's always challenging to control the quality from your suppliers
