Hi, I recently picked up three Anderson AR stripped lower receivers. I am soliciting suggestions of what I should build with them. I think I want a .300 Blackout SBR, a .223 SBR, and a .223 varmint/DMR. I'd love to hear your suggestions. In particular, I am curious about the preferred SBR barrel lengths for the .300 Blackout (I do plan to suppress with an Octane 9) and the .223 SBR. I'm open to suggestions about parts and add-ons as well. As for budget, I do not have a strict budget, but I'm not made of money so let's say under $1000 per rifle. Thanks.

I have a 8.5" 300 blk barreled pistol that has VERY little muzzle flash, as soon as the cash lands it is getting a suppressor. I also built a 10.5 300 blk and it shot nicely on the same lower. Also tried a 7.5" in 5.56 and it was flashy. Big fireball. But it had a bare muzzle.

Here is the 7.5" 5.56 uploadfromtaptalk1463012909537.jpg I built a custom shortened recoil system for this one, it's 19.5" overall.

How does the .300BLK suppressed sound in various barrel lengths? I'd like a barrel under 10" I think, but not if it results in reliability issues or is noisy suppressed.

Un-suppressed i can't tell the difference, and if you are using a 308 suppressor the chambers are designed for more gas than a 300blk can produce, so probably not a lot of difference in those barrel lengths. But i haven't witnessed it personally.

I have heard 9" is optimal for Blackout with pistol gas. Running suppressed, definitely opt for an adjustable gas block. For 5.56, 10.5 is a great length. This is what I went with on my pistol. You can still run carbine gas reliably, and you still retain the velocity to about 100 yards that the ammo "needs for effectiveness." If (when) I were to build a DMR/varmint rig, I would go with 18 or 20, rifle gas. I would also insist on nitrided barrel steel, now that I know better...
