Range Day 11/3/2010
1) zeroed at 50yds
2) Conducted several drills, for a total of 440rds.
3) Ammo included Hornady 55gr fmj, tula 55gr fmj, and Remington 55gr fmj.
4) no failures or malfunctions occurred.
5) Happy with Tula performance in the gun.
6) PMAGS were used.
Thoughts on accessories:
1) AFG: I like the afg a lot, it allows me to get that aggressive grip with thw thumb above the center line of bore with no effort, I put my hand on the grip and it is there. I don’t have to think about it, like I do with a standard VFG. The AFG is comfortable, and I have no issues with it what so ever. I thought that the carbine length rail wasn’t going to be able to allow mr to use it as it needed to be used, however that is not the case for me, and my arm length.
2) M2s sling: I like this sling a lot. For me and my needs the single point is the best option. The fact that it is able to be used as a 2 point is a neat feature, however not something that I think that I will ever use it as. I use the convertibility of the sling as a way to detach it from me at the range., unclip and set and or lay the rifle down. When I am ready to shoot, I throw the sling over my shoulder clip back in and I am good to go. The QD latch is a nice feature, however I avoid using it as there is no need for me to so far. If I was in a situation where I needed to then It would be very nice to have. It is also going to come in handy when doing one handed type 3 malfunction clearances. Overall it is durable, very adaptable, and meets a lot of needs for one single piece of gear.
3) Moe Handguards: First and foremost I am very surprised with how awesome this hand guard is with it being as inexpensive as it was, and the fact that it is polymer. There are several things that I like about it. The biggest being that it is everything that I need and nothing that I don’t. I am not a fan of 100 miles of rail on guns. This hand guard allows me to add rails where they are needed and I like that a lot. Plus the fact that It was easy to install, and that it was so expensive was a big plus for me. There is a slight forward and rearward movement in the hand guards, if you really try to move them once they are mounted, but not enough to worry me, for one there is not much movement and 2 there are no lasers, and or optics mounted to it. If course it looks really nice too.
4) Moe Pistol grip: It does what it is meant to do, it is comfortable and it works.
5) MBUS: I needed a rear sight, and that is what I got. I like the various ways that it can be activated (flipped up). I like the fact that it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, ad the fact that it mounted easily and solidly. It is easy to adjust as it should be, and the fact that it has 2 apertures is a nice feature.
6) Eotech: I have ran a lot of different optics, on a lot of different guns in my time behind the gun and in the Military. I prefer the Eo tech. It is bright when it needs to be, reliable, accurate, fast, mounts solid and easy, adjustments are fast and easy, and is at a great price. No complaints, I did not settle on an eo tech I have chosen it before and I did the same here.
7) Surefire Light: I have been using surefire lights for a long time. No complaints. They are solid, bright and they just plain work.
8) BAD Lever: I like everything that I have on the gun so far. However I Love the BAD lever, I think it is a great concept, and I am glad that I went ahead and gave it a try on my gun. I am very, very pleased with it. It allows me to be more efficient in multiple manipulations of the carbine. From dropping the bolt after a speed reload, to locking the bolt to the rear to clear a double feed. All while maintaining my hands on fire control. This piece of kit for me at least is worth it’s weight in gold and then some.
9) Moe stock: It was inexpensive, it is solid, and holds where I put it, it is comfortable, and easy to use, and it looks great. What more could you want?
10) MI single point sling adapter: MI makes good stuff, and I have always been happy with their sling adapters on the ar series (various ones) I got this one because of my past experiences, and the fact that it was QD, which after messing with the sling I now know that I didn’t need a QD per say but it is there, and another option. Additionally I like that fact that I do not have to remove the castle nut to install them, that is a big bonus in my book.
11) REDI MAG: was not on the gun when I took it to the range the first time, however I am excited about this addition and this completes the build. I will use it a lot on my next trip, and I will update with my thoughts after wards.
