I have this new Colt carry handle. I slapped it on the rifle, and showed it to somebody, who noticed that the rear sight was canted left. I noticed it as well afterwords, and upon close examination the hole in front of the sight aperature was empty, which looks like it should have a (threaded?) piece in it, to keep the rear sight piece straight.

What piece do I need to fix this problem? Is there any nuances that I should know about for fixing it?

Thanks!

If you grab just the sight part and twist it you can probably wiggle it a little. You will feel spring tension returning it to that slightly canted position.

Every one I have ever seen is exactly like that, as Bart said.

That whole assembly has to be able to move up and down for elevation adjustment relative to the rest of the handle.

If you put a screw in it, it couldn't move.

It the cant really bothers you and you are handy with simple tools, you can fix it:

Remove the rear sight base.

You'll find a spring loaded ball bearing on the sight base lower front left corner.

Drill a small hole in the lower front right corner and epoxy a small steel stud in place (I use an old pivot pin detent).

After the epoxy dries, use a file to dress down the stud until the sight base is no longer canted.

Reassemble the sight into the handle.

BTW, the hole you see in front of the flip aperture is to provide access to the tiny allen screw that locks the 2 halves of the elevation thumb wheel together and the detent ball & spring for the elevation thumb wheel. It would be a really, really bad idea to mess with that hole.

I have mine off of my Colt that I'll sell you for $30 +shipping. I have a detachable rear sight and a scope mounted on the flat top, so I don't need it.
