Thanks for the info Bart. I finally got around to getting my rifle ready. Turns out the Mark AR scope is ready to go. It is calibrated for 3150 fps 55 gr and that is what I have. Hornady 55 gr at 3150 FPS. The scope is already zero'd for 100 yards and the turrent is marked for distance so all I have to do is dial in the range. I checked the scope for cant and was slightly tilted. Now it is a level as I can get it. It is only 9x but the glass is real good. Hopefully it will be close and I will see well enough. Then I put an old bipod on it as required. I think I will try it with the AR. Next time I will try the 7-08.Too bad they don't sell match ammo for it.

For what specific BC is the optic calibrated? And for what temperature, pressure, humidity, and altitude? When I hunt on the west face in Colorado 4500ft higher than home, even at the same temp, I see about 4" difference at 400yrds. When I hunt in AZ, same elevation, but 60degrees warmer in the winter, again, about 4" difference.

And as Bart mentioned, your particular rifle might be off of the spec velocity by 100fps.

BDC reticles are a wing and a prayer. You'll have to recalibrate your ranges against the marks all year as your environmentals change just like any other optic.

I know that I will probably need to adjust. I don't have a chrono so I need to start somewhere. If I get serious about continuing I will need reloading equipment, a chrono. Decide on a dedicated rifle and work up loads for it. I am just going to see how I do, and my stock Delton does. I also want to see how my Tikka does.

I don't think you need a chronograph.

If your muzzle velocity guess is off 100 fps from actual, that'll cause about 1 MOA (6") drop difference at 600 yards.

Never used one nor had a need to for the few loads I developed. Only times I used one was to see velocity spread for different hold force the rifle against my shoulder and see where bullets struck relative to call at long range.

I would spend the money on a better barrel.
