I just got a new AR upper in 7.62x39 and am somewhat stumped about an issue. I expected some problems but nothing on this level. I finally got it to fire with an enhanced firing pin then found the gun to be locked up after every shot. It seems as though there is absolutely no gas to the BCG. I even plugged the chamber with an empty case and blew down the barrel with compressed air. Zero air escaped the gas tube. I’m thinking a severely misaligned gas block or they just completely forgot to drill a port in the barrel which would be hard to believe. Any thoughts?

If a plugged chamber yields zero airflow, then yes, it’s clear either the GB is misaligned, port not drilled, or AGB is fully closed. Pretty simple workflow from here, unless you intend to simply send it back to the mothership.

Block is under the full length hand guard. Not sure how much “tinkering” I can do and still get it warrantied. Looks like its back to the mother ship for this guy.

Take out the enhanced firing pin before you send it back to the manufacturer. The bottom line it is defective. And the reasons, well there could be a bunch of them, but that is not your responsibility to find out.

Make sure they know about the ignition problem as well.

Not much tinkering at all if you decide to look into it. Simply unscrew the machine screws holding the rail on, slide it off, and see what you’ve got. If the GB is adjustable, adjust it. If it’s tensioned with screws, loosen them and see if you can get air flow. If it’s pinned, you might choose to leave it unless you know which direction to drift and have a replacement pin on hand.

I’m definitely sending it back at this point. Im just a little surprised that something like this would leave the factory. The only reason for me to take it apart is to find out exactly what was screwed up on assembly. I just thought it was odd that I got zero air flow through the gas system. Thought I was overlooking something.

Always send a problem back. If it was sold as new they should stand behind it. Otherwise, you figure it out yourself & spend more anyway.

I can’t see a gas port in the barrel but to be fair I couldn’t see the one in my other upper either. Thats what lead me to the compressed air test. Looks like the company is going to do the right thing. Thanks guys.
