AR guys: Spike's heavy T2 buffer question

From what I can tell the A5 is just a rifle-length buffer tube that allows collapsable stocks... it isn't inherently more recoil-suppressing than a standard A2 tube, is it? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not 100% sure, but if the buffer tube is longer, there is more room for the recoil spring to slow the rearward motion of the bolt carrier before the buffer hits the back of the receiver extension. I believe the "harsh" recoil of the carbine gas system on a 16" barrel is often attributed to the buffer hitting full travel with a lot of velocity and slamming into it, similar to bottoming out the suspension on a car. If this is the case, then a longer extension should smooth recoil.

The amount of buffer travel is approximately the same in all RE's, longer rifle RE's use a longer buffer.
