Got a 16" middy barrel in the mail today that I bought on-line. Guy told me it was an unmarked, chromed Armalite in the white, with no markings.

It doesn't have any caliber, twist, or manufacturer marks, but it has what looks to be a serial number. What's weird is that that number is stamped multiple times around the circumference, just forward of the pin. There are seven or eight stampings, some of them overlapping, and some of them not the full number. It starts with N31911. There is also a very crisp "4" at the 3 o'clock position on the edge of the chamber. Anyone have an idea what all this could be about?

I can post pictures this evening if that would help.

he said no markings and there were multiple markings?

:what:
he said it was chrome and you can't tell?

hmm...seems time you called him up and asked what the deal was

I appreciate the advice, but I'm just looking to see if anyone has seen something like this before or has some idea what might be going on.

I actually just corrected the original post. I was mistaken about the chrome-lining. The transition I was looking for was right at the shoulder between outside of barrel and face of chamber. Looking at it in the sunlight, I can clearly see that the chamber is that duller, more satin look than the rest of the barrel.

Chrome moly, non-chrome lined, barrels look chrome lined at the chamber because most manufacturers do not finish the chambers or bores.
Having a bright or satin appearance to the chamber is not an indication of chrome lining.

Post some pictures if you can.
