It's no secret that the AR bubble has completely burst. I recently saw an add for a rifle parts kit containing every part necessary to build a standard, low end gun for 349 and shipping. Uppers and lowers purchased separately can put complete rifles in the 400 range easily. Not many AKs can be had for that money anymore. So with the elitist twist that always comes with similar products with differing prices, it seems as though the AR is now the "cheap" rifle and the AK the expensive one. Soooo....does this mean AK rifles are better than AR rifles now? I mean seriously guys if they weren't better they wouldn't be worth more right???

I think that saturation more than any thing else is the reason for the price drop, look at the number of manufactures that are on the market now.

I'm an AK guy, but even I have come to realize it's foibles. However, I never do a side by side of the AK and AR and look at the AK and say, "Well, that's a completely useless piece of junk."

Were the chips ever to go down, I'd have faith in the AK to keep me alive. As for the AR, give me one in 6.8 Remington or .300 BLK and I'd say the same. The 5.56 doesn't inspire me with confidence, but it does inspire my budget in being so damn cheap.

I'll attempt a serious answer. Really. I've used both rifles and in a weird sort of way enjoy both.

Neither is perfect, no machine can be. Any machine is a compromise designed to meet the expected performance demands. As such, they're both fine examples of an infantry rifle. They are different because the countries fielding each rifle have different expectations of the military.

So... Prior to the big inflation, there was a relatively small gap in price point, when you consider the percentages. AR types skyrocketed in price for a while due to banic fears. Production ramped up to meet demand, the market leveled off and warehouses were now full. Price dropped accordingly. After a while, we'll see prices rise a bit to normal. Again, close comparison to the AK types.

I'm always entertained by a good AR vs. AK thread, but nothing beats the original:

It means everyone should own one of each, and enjoy the attributes unique to each platform.

LOL. In this world of tacticool, the AR wins hands down. I can put 20 accessories on my AR when I want.
