hi guy`s,

would like some info from you guys who load for 16in bbls.
i have an armalite ar10 & have trouble finding load data for short bbls.
maybe i`m wrong but won`t i lose accuracy if a given "most accurate"
load from a load manual states x amount of powder for 168gr bullet
when its data is from say is for a 24in or 20 in bbl?

case in point, sierra manual says 42.0 grs. of re-15 @ 2,600fps.(26in savage bbl.)
my chrony data gave me 2374fps (on avg.) for my 16in bbl.

even hornady`s service rifle data is a 22in bbl. w/ 41.4 grs of imr 4895
was 2,500. with that load i averaged 2,415 fps.

do any of you load for a 16in ar10 using a 168gr sierra match or equivalent?
if so, do you have any data thats very accurate?

thanks for your help!

Bottle neck data, is bottle neck data.

The very same data one would use for a 26" barrel, is the same data you would use for a 16" barrel, simply put, there is no difference as to barrel length.

The data is tested and developed based on the cartridge design, not barrel length.

Unless your shooting a extended ranges, a loss of 200 FPS shouldn't make much of a difference. Follow the published load data. I have found that my most accurate loads fall between 92 and 98% of the max load data charge. Can't explain it I just shoot it.
