Guys I am torn I like 2 different rifles and can't decide which to buy.Whish I could buy both but right know that ain't gonna happen.I looked at a tricked out dpms ar10 it had all the bells and whistles for around 1300.00. But I also like the springfield armory M1A1 the standard rifle with synthetic stock and it also is around 1395.00 but I would have to buy the gen3 scope mount system and thats 119.00 more which really dosen't matter to me. Which would you choose if you were spending your money?

It depends on what you want it for. If your goal is to have a fun rifle with lots of power, I'd go for the M1A, because I've never personally seen one jam. I've seen lots of AR10 jams though. On the other hand, if you want a real accurate MOA type gun, the AR10 would have a lot more potential.

I'm trying to find a reloading press that will accept 105mm tank shells. That, and a supplier for depleted uranium.

Given the choice between the AR10 and M14, I'd go AR10 assuming this isn't for service rifle competition (of course). AR10 has a naturally better scope mount system (flat top receiver) and is modular and user serviceable.

For any kind of long range target practice, I would suggest the DPMS. From what I have read, they are super accurate, reliable and about the same price as a decent AR15.

which gun?

dude,
whatever floats your boat. Both are well crafted/mature
American designs that should serve you well.
On the scope mount, gen3 Springfield is aluminum
mating to a steel receiver. Go for a steel mount.

I have owned an M1A, and it was a fine rifle. I have owned 4 AR15s and they too were fine rifles. Given what I know, having shot the AR10, and owned the M1A, I would go for the AR10. Accuracy will on a par with the M1A, and the platform of the AR10 is in my opinion far more versitile, and just as reliable.

I'd go with the DPMS as Jackal has suggested. I saw an article in a magazine comparing the DPMS with the M1A Scout. The DPMS certainly beat the M1A for accuracy (shot groups you could put inside the M1A groups). A friend has a DPMS (scoped) and with surplus NATO ammo shoots about 1" or les at 100 yds. Always under an inch with match. He and I both shot groups with all 3 rounds touching at 100 when we were doing our part.

The accuracy on the DPMS is phenomenal and the only rifles I know that can match it are bolt sniper guns. It has been 100% reliable out of the box.

<I'd go for the FAL  >

My thoughts exactly. As a matter of fact I did go for the Fal, and I would do it again.

AR vote

i'd never shot ar10 but if its like my ar15 its better then m1a i own 2 of them i had a time getting the jamming problems to stop and every now and again i still got to slap the bolt shut it need a forward assist more then the ar's do .but they are alot nicer

Check your price on the M1A. I got mine in Colorado (when I was a Highlander) for quite a bit cheaper. It's a great rifle and I haven't had one problem with it and it's been through quite a bit; read the manuals of both (available on the web) and that may help in you decision.

Let me know what you buy and the next time I'm in AR we can go through several hundred rounds...your treat, of course :)

Seriously, let us know what you get!

Take care,
