New AR10, federal power-shock (blue box) very small dents 1/2" below shoulder.
The ejection is throwing brass gently about (4) o-clock which I believe is proper.
One thing I noticed is my lightly charged reloads don't dent. Ejection seems the same. This makes me think the hotter loads are over-gassing my carrier.
It's a carbine (collaps stock) with H3 buffer, heavy spring, factory set-up not a home build

i dont think its a problem. the deflector is there for that exact reason.

i cant say about 308, but in my experience federal is about as light of a case as ive found (thinner).

i could be wrong because all my experience with the ar platform has been 5.56, but ive seen the exact same thing.

That sounds normal and OK. Very small dents won't affect your ability to reload the cases. You won't get 10+ uses in a semiauto anyway.

ok thanks fellas, I want to full-length size the cases and never had dents before

for my bolties I neck-size only, but the cases are never dented

flyinBryan-
you may be right about federal being thinner, my reloaded winchester cases aren't denting.
I thought it was just because they were loaded light

try to find you some lake city demilled pull down brass. the stuff is awesome.

i iron out dents all the time. actually the ones that dont size out i fire them out.

50,000-60,000 p.s.i. dent repair. :D

With respect, Federal cases are heavier / thicker than Winchester, RP, Hornady etc.
They are even heavier than GI brass!
The Fed brass may be softer, but it is definitely heavier.
Gather up your powder scale & measure for yourself.
