I've been wanting to purchase a 22lr conversion for my AR. The Ciener seems to be the most often mentioned, but I've heard some not too flattering reports:barf: of dealing with him directly. Has anyone ever dealt with this vendor http://www.magnumarms.com/html/ar15_conversion.html on this product, or can someone recommend a good place to order from? Also, has anyone had problems with these conversion kits? Are other kits (reliable, well made) available?
thanks in advance.

I researched this a lot and decided to get a dedicated upper instead...well I researched it a lot the purchase was an impulse buy.

I decided to go with a dedicated upper for a number of reasons

1) the point of aim changes with 22LR vs 223 and I didn't want to keep adjusting my sights
2) the bore for a 223 is a little large for 22LR. a 5.56 is only .001" larger so this probably isn't a huge concern.
3) the twist rate for 22LR needs to be around 15:1 vs. the 7-9:1 for 223
4) the gun shop had these new nifty 22 uppers in stock

But as a plinker those conversion kits work well although some do require some polishing.

I picked up a tactical solutions AR22 upper yesterday so I don't have a long term report for you but last night it ate everything fine after the first mag (1 FTE) and a few FTF's due to super cheap bulk 22 ammo.

I have the Ceiner kit. I would buy it through a vendor instead of him, since he is a world class prick to deal with. I got it 5 weeks ago, and have had ZERO issues with it, other than the stock 10 round mag is TOO SMALL! I just picked up some Black Dog Machine 27 round mags and am looking forward to sending lots of .22LR down range tomorrow.

It is dirtier to use than .223, but I'm a zealous gun scrubber, and also always fire a round or two of .223 down range after a few hundred .22LR's get fired... that cleans up the lead in the barrel and blows out any crap in the gas tube.

Don't support Ciener.

MGshaggy, what kind of lower is that? I don't recognize the rollmark.

Its an old, beat-to-hell, crappy, out-of-spec, cast Olympic.

Still works, though...:D
