I have just completed a lower for a 6.8 build I am doing

I am now researching options for a scope.

2 I am considering

Burris XTR 1x4

Leupold VXR 1x4

For those that have any experience with them, what are your thoughts?

I've got the XTR on a Reese-ish rifle. The glass is great but the reticule is a little busy for my liking.
However, the price made me overlook that issue.
Don't think you could go wrong w/ either though.

I wouldn't get an XTR when I could get pretty much the same thing with a TAC30 or MTAC, for hundreds less. I actually like the reticle on those two better than the XTR. The XTR reticle is a bad copy of the ACOG horseshoe. It has the BDC, but the stadia lines are not the right length to range as you do with the ACOG.

I don't have any experience with the Leupold.

The MTAC and TAC30 are very good optics. If you go down to that kind of budget, you also should look at the Vortex PST, Nikon M223 and Nikon Monarch African. The Nikons are NOT illuminated. All 1-4x.

I was considering both of these optics for my ar15 and finally settled for a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x in a Larue mount. For the features, glass quality, and customer service reputation Vortex is definitely worth a look.

Burris XTR 1-4x24 - $698
Leupold VXR 1.25-4x20 - $449
Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 - $499
Weaver Tactical 1-5x24 - $663

I'm going to say get a fourth option, the Weaver.

I have found on line warranty service complaints for all thoes brands except the Leupold and Vortex. Some dealers may give the run around with Vortex but it can be straightened out in short order through Vortex.
