I have my eyes (and wallet) set on building an AR-15. Many of you seem knowledgeable about where to find the best deals on all things firearms. Where can I go to get the cheapest stripped AR-15 lower receiver? I am looking for one that is forged and hard anodize MIL-A-8625E, Type III. Other than those two requirements I am not picky, the receiver is supposed to be a great place to save money.

The cheapest I have found is a Superior Arms via AIM Surplus for $79.99. With shipping and local FFL transfer I am looking at almost $100, a great total cost of ownership (TCO). The only hitch is that it is currently out of stock, and I'll find out in a phone call tomorrow if they're anticipating more any time soon.

The next best price I have found is from Anvil Arms. $130 plus shipping and local FFL transfer fee.

The complete (less lower) kit I am looking at will run me between $450 and $700 depending on bells and whistles. $800 TCO would be the upper limit of my budget, so I am sure you can appreciate the importance of shaving cost wherever I can and starting with the receiver.

Once again, thank you for any info you can supply me with in reference to finding a cheap, forged AR-15 receiver.

You're about a month too late, good luck finding ANY online vendor with AR lowers in stock. Sure you can backorder one but expect at least a 2-3 month wait. Your best bet, unless you don't mind waiting, is to find one at a local dealer.

some gunshops are still getting(or maybe they just had a bunch of them in the back room) DPMS stripped lowers. I just bought 2 of them not more than 2 weeks ago for $135 each.

There is a brand made in eastern iowa(i think) that goes for slightly less. I can't remember the name of it, but i think it had a patriotic name.

AR lowers in stock?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It really is about a month too late. Many people scoffed at the possibility of a run on AR's magazines, etc. while the rest purchased what they wanted, needed, and though might become scarce.

Your best bet is to find one locally, so you dont have to pay for shipping and FFL transfer fees, or wait several months for dealer stock to rebound.

We probably wont have any new legislation by then...

Oops. I guess you already found the iowa brand. That would be "superior arms".

Funny, I thought they had the word "freedom" or "eagle" in the name.

AR lowers in stock?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

my local shop just restocked. 25 assorted Stag, RRA, plus a couple DPMS and S&W,

stripped and complete.

the initial surge in purchases was a shock to the system, but the lowers are getting out there and are available if you look.

Sure the dealers are restocking albeit at $40-$50 more than they cost a month ago.

AR lowers in stock?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They will be back, a bit higher than pre-obama perhaps, but they will be back. The Anvil Arms lower is a good one, but it was $100 not long ago.

I just ran across an Essential Arms at a local gun store, 1 left. I went and researched it here and elsewhere and some people say they're GTG, about $100 on their website, didn't see anything saying they were out of stock, but who knows.

Del-Ton Inc is based in NC, I thought they were just a local company, but apparently people from all over the country buy their stuff. Their phone is busy, but had stripped lowers on the site, not sure what happens if you click to actually order them on the web, what the turn around time is, or whatever. I think they were a little over a hundred something...

I'm new to this stuff too, but just trying to help if I can...

Good to see that some dealers are rebounding faster than I thought.

When AIM clears their backlog, I will be doing business with them again.

you mean the cav arms stuff?

Yeah, couldn't remember the name of who made them. Looks like the price on their web site is $125 for a stripped receiver, of course it includes the stock but it doesn't seem any cheaper than a regular receiver even once you factor that in.

Any idea if they are available for less than list price?

find a better shop.

my local just got those stag and RRA in at 130. same price from before the elections.
