AR15 free float handguard

I've narrowed it down to two. YHM "smooth" or M.I. Gen II SS series.

I'm actually leaning toward the Midwest Industries for two reasons, but want more input. Those reasons are: 1) available in 15" and I can cover my low-profile gas block and end-cap it. 2) it has a bipod stud on it.

Potential downside: There's no indication on their website that a jam nut is included in the package. Is it needed for this tube? There is an option to buy one at the bottom of the page, so it seems maybe so. At additional cost. YHM includes one with the package.

Thoughts? Personal experience and recommendation? Thanks.

Jam nut is not required with MI Gen 2 SS handguard. Thus it is not included. The only real issue I see with this handguard is heat dissipation. Holding it anywhere near the low pro gas block will be downright uncomfortable after heavy shooting. Look at where you intend to put your hand and the location of your gas block. If they are anywhere near each other, you might consider a different route. Otherwise, great option!

Have you considered the Troy TRX Alpha rail? It uses the factory barrel nut, comes in the length you want, and is light weight and modular like those others.

I have 2 of the MI Gen 1 SS-12's. They are rock solid. One has been mounted for 2 years. It has never had a single issue. I like the design of the Gen 2's. I email MI to ask where i find a spare set screw. MI sent me a couple for free. I would not hesitate to buy another MI product.

I have 2 YHM rifle lenght tubes on my 6.8 and 5.56. They work great. I had to drill for swivel studs,but thats no problem.

Also take a look at the Rainier Arms Evolution. It is priced similarly, and is also very lightweight like the MI. It uses the standard barrel nut so installation is a piece of cake. But regardless, you're likely to be happy any of the choices you've mentioned, as I've only heard good things about both YHM and MI.
