I'm trying to do a bit of research regarding AR15s - understanding the many options, figuring out what will be best for me, etc. I've come to optics.

At this point, I'm about 99% sure I want a standard A2 post front sight, mid-length gas system. I'm thinking a folding rear option, or possibly the Daniel Defense A1.5 rear sight.

Regarding an optic, I know I want something with zero magnification. I'm pretty set on Aimpoint, as I've heard only great things about their products. I've heard positive things about the Micro T-1 here on THR, and also about the Aimpoint PRO. However, it's difficult for me to wrap my head around having the utmost faith in the durability of an optic that size (the T-1), and I'm just not sure the PRO is the right optic for my needs. I'm hoping some of you with more experience might be able to shed some light for me.

1. Co-Witness optic/FS... is it that important? Would I be better off just selecting LPGB and run the optic with no irons (or BUIS front and rear)?
2. As indicated, this rifle would be designated pretty exclusively for HD/SD within 100 yards, but it would be a major plus if the optic's reticle/dot would be small enough to allow for roughly basketball-sized groups at that 100 yard mark, provided I do my part.
3. Would either the Aimpoint Micro T-1 or PRO allow for co-witnessing? Is there another optic I ought to consider, or anything else I might not even realize to ask?

Thanks a lot.

1. Honestly, if you're looking at an Aimpoint, cowitness is going to be more of a personal preference (unless you're headed to Afghanistan with it). Less expensive optics, as well as other styles can be subject to failure or issues with the dot being too bright or too dim, but that's not really the case with an Aimpoint.

2. I think you'll be fine with either choice for that. There are lots of people shooting that accurately with theirs. It just takes some practice and learning your dot.

3. I think it's going to be more a function of the mount you use and your irons than the specific Aimpoint model. Both of them can be run in a cowitness setup.

The only thing I'd add is are you prepared to pass this down to your kid or grandkid? The Aimpoint will likely outlast you.

hopefully your optic will never endure any of that in the video. . .

i have an aimpoint pro, i like the mount that it comes with and it is significantly cheaper than the T-1 and other models. the only complaint is at higher brightness settings you get some glare, but i haven't had a problem seeing downrange or hitting my target.

the pro mount also has two height adjustments so you can remove a space and lower the optic, i have a RRA dominator mount so the removable spacer helps, the mount has a riser built in.
the 2moa dot that is standard on most aimpoints allows for decent accuracy, i can shoot a 20oz bottle at 100yds if I have a rest
