Hi folks,

I am curious, it seems every after market barrel I look at has M4 feed ramps on the barrel extension, none with just a Rifle Extension. Is this the norm now for simplicity sake? I.e., every after market barrel maker is defaulting to the M4 feed ramps?

Anybody make the barrels with OUT the M4 feed ramps?

Thanks and happy hunting,

I think almost all the 16" barrels on the market will have m4 feed ramps because of the type of gun they will be used on. I got a 24" 223 barrel from DPMS that had rifle feed ramps, which meant I had to find an upper that didn't have m4 slots in it. It was a little bit of a hassle.

It's seen as the default better ramp to build either. Rifle ramps in a M4 cut lower leaves them with a sharp edge sticking out that will hang up the nose of the bullet when loading. Better to protect against a CS return and loss of a sale than accept that the public can't specify what they want and get themselves in trouble.

M4 ramps on a rifle lower, not nearly the problem.

If you are installing the barrel extension on the bench, buying only one type is less expensive per piece because of volume pricing. Buying half as many of each costs more. Since there is an issue with rifle ramps, why toy with comebacks when it can be avoided and make more money at the same time?

This is what kind of business decisions that manufactures make putting out products on the market.
