Hey, so I'm thinking about putting the 12.5" YHM lightweight freefloat rail on my S&W M&P15, would it look stupid having that long of a rail on a carbine? I'm thinking about doing that so I'll have a longer sight radius on my BUIS. Also, I've heard of foregrips that have bipod legs that come out, are those any good? Can anybody recommend a good one?

Thanks

It'd look just fine. Lots of people run extended rails over a low-profile gasblock. Gives you a lot of rail room.

Personally, I think the bipod/vertical grip combos gimmicky and I don't use them.

Both of my AR's are Recce-style, with a low profile gas block and rifle-length rails.

On my AR, I have a 12" YHM Lightweight Rail with a 16" Barrel on the rifle, and on my LR-308, I have a 13" SWS E-1 Rail with an 18" barrel.

I love them both.

If YOU don't think it looks stupid, go for it. I built a couple that have the gas blocks covered by rails but not quite in a CAR setup.

As for the grip with bipod, I used a Grippod model GPS01 which is the aluminum constructed one and I really like it. It sits a little high on a bench but shooting prone it's perfect. http://www.grippod.com/. I don't believe they sell the aluminum one anymore or possibly just to Mil, unless the GPS249 is the newer version of mine. The aluminum models are about $100 more than the polymer ones but if you buy a Harris and a moderately priced bipod adapter you'll spend about $150 anyway, so with a Grippod you'll also recoup the cost of a forward grip if you decide to use it as one.

Badger Ordnance Speedblock in a Larue 13.2 rail, I don't have a newer pic of this rifle since I have swapped the speedblock and installed a PRI gas block because I had a gas leak. the PRI block sits inside the rail instead of 50/50 like the Badger.

Hope this helps...
