I have a bunch of different AR15 uppers that fit nice and snug on my lower, some of them don't, there's a bit of "slop", mostly vertical, it doesn't bother me much. The lower has a set screw to take up the slack but then I'd be fiddling with it every time I swap.

My only real concern is if a bit of slop affects accuracy?

Thanks THR.

As far as I know the sights or optic will be attached to the part that moves and will move along with it. It shouldn't affect anything except it being a distraction to you the shooter, which that might bother you and affect your accuracy.

This.

Or you can get a pack of o rings from Home Depot and put one on the front takedown lug. That will fix it.

I forget the size, but I can look later.

Mechanically no, it won't affect accuracy. The sights/optic are attached to the upper, which also contains the BCG and barrel. Essentially the lower is just a gun mount. However, some people may find the play between the upper and lower to be distracting and it could possibly effect the level of accuracy that they are capable of producing.

As long as you aren't trying to attain bench rest levels of accuracy it really shouldn't be an issue at all.

This will make it tight! Best solution for me personally because it simply feels better.

I tried one of the "accu wedge" things. I could not get my rifle back together tight enough to push the rear pin into place. I even tried to do a trim/adjustment to make it fit. Was a no-go. So, it is sitting on a shelf...lookin' at me...

Until you reach the point in your own skill where a very small variation in cheek weld affects accuracy, it's a non issue. That small variation accounts for fractions of a minute of angle and frankly most shooters aren't good enough to realize that kind of accuracy. I include myself in that statement. I'm a good shot with a rifle, have seen what is possible with a skilled shooter and an accurate rifle and will flatly state that as long as the optic or sights are mounted solidly, it won't matter to 99% of us.

use a foam ear plug, trim to fit, works for me and I always have them around anyway

Ok gentlemen, resolved. The upper in question is an AR57. I don't have the option of using the o-ring trick on the front takedown fulcrum, it's not a mil-spec design.

The tiny set screw present for just this purpose on my lower receiver needs to sit proud by a turn or two in order to achieve a bank vault lockup. I've added the tiny hex wrench to the other items on the MOE+ grip storage area. I'll just turn it in or out as needed, I may have made a mountain out of a molehill on this one.

Thank you all very much.
