One chief complaint I have held in the media, was that they only show guns used by criminals or cops. I have noticed recently that WND has also been publicizing self-defense uses.

A Packwood, Wash., man is wounded, but alive, after an evening of entertaining visitors turned into a gunfight when one of his guests opened fire on him while attempting to steal his gun collection.

The homeowner, whose name was not released by authorities, told Lewis County Chief Criminal Deputy Joe Doench that a male friend from nearby Morton, Wash., had arrived Wednesday morning for a visit, bringing with him two women and and a man from Las Vegas who he did not know.

The homeowner became suspicious, believing he was being distracted by three of the guests, so he retrieved his AR15 semi-automatic rifle and directed the visitors to another part of the house where he discovered that the fourth visitor had broken into his gun safe.

According to Seattle's KING-TV, the homeowner found one of the women loading guns from his collection into a truck and he told her to stop. She fired, hitting him in the ear. He said he fired back, killing her instantly.

The mutual friend of the homeowner and the trio from Las Vegas was also shot several times in the legs. Initial reports from the Longview Daily News suggest he was hit by stray bullets. The wounded was taken to a nearby hospital but died while waiting to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His name has not been released.

One man and his common-law wife from Las Vegas – Jason Brooks, 38, and Natalie Brooks, 44 – are being held on charges of robbery and burglary. Court papers reportedly say that one of them admitted they wanted to rob the homeowner in order to buy methamphetamine.

At this time, police are treating the incident as a case of self-defense.

"I know the individual," said Gene Seiber of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. "There's nothing that prohibits [him] by law from possessing firearms.

"Last night he was cooperative, but you could tell he was a little shocky because the fact is he'd been shot," he said.

These people need to charged under the Felony Murder rule for the death of their female partner in crime. As for the homeowner, he should get some much deserved public praise.

See if one did not have guns in the house than these people who not have tried to steal them, and no one would have been killed. :barf: See how the anti mind will interrupt this story.

Good Job On Staying Alive

But this guy needs to work on his people selection skills.

Cripes, how do you choose "friends" like that?!

Gaaahhhh!

sometimes friends spiral down and become scum. sometimes you dont know how crappy they have become till they are already at your house for a visit.

Felony murder rule is rarely extended to include fellow felons.

Each state to their own.

Well cbsbyte there is a good point to be made. If you have something valuable and easy to transport and you let bad people know it you run a serious risk of having it stolen. Guns are valuable and easy to transport.

What's "Felony Murder Rule?" I thought all murders were felonies. Is there a misdemeanor murder rule? ... does it go something like: the more felonious murders I miss, the meaner I get? :scrutiny:

In Felony Murder anyone committing a felony which results in a death is subject to murder charges. If you commit a robbery and someone is so scared that he has a heart attack and dies it would be felony murder even though you never pulled the trigger. If you rob a store and someone shoots your accomplice graveyard dead you may face charges for felony murder.

Your felony + A resulting death = Felony murder

No, what he's saying is that even though the other robbers didn't shoot the woman that died, they can still be charged with murder since she died while they were committing a felony.

Don't forget family members too.

Not that it's happened to me, but it happened to a friend of mine. Her son got into meth and he stole every thing from her that he could - over and over again. Horrible, tragic story because she's in her early 50's and can't work due to health problems and she has lost everything, including her house, car, et cetera.

Meth is a wicked, evil, vicious drug. Alcohol is still the drug claiming more addicts than any other. But hey, only about eighteen thousand Americans die each year from alcohol-related traffic crashes, so, I guess it's not such a big deal.

A few years ago the FBI (?) issued a report that indicated a gigantic majority of all crimes are drug-related.

You're known by the company you keep.

+1. I know several people that have had a LOT of stuff stolen. Money is obviously #1, but guns are a close 2nd. If some creep wants to unload a bunch of guns, a quick stop in the closest bar will get money in a hurry. Nothing is easier to unload than a bunch of nice guns.

One was a family member that had all his guns, jewelry, and money stolen by his own son.

I used to be "proud" of my stuff. My wife jumped me for showing them to everyone. She was right.

Wondering how this worked??? How could somebody break into a safe and you not hear it if you were home.
