I was told Browning is not making them right now. Is it tough to find a NIB MKIII?

Browning no longer makes them, but FN (parent company in Belgium) is making all the new ones. I saw a few Browning marked jobs at the gun show in Louisville last month, but they wanted a fortune for them. For what it's worth, I've heard the new FN's are just as good, if not better, made. I bought my MkIII used back in 1996 and I love it.

Just a clarification. Browning never actually made the Hi-Power. It was always made by FN. They are still being sold by Browning.

Hello. Browning Arms Co. has never manufactured the Hi Power; the "Browning Hi Power" has always been made by FN but imported into the US by Browning. I think Browning begain importing them into the US in the 1950's but could be mistaken on the year. FN recently imported Hi Powers under their own logo but the guns did not sell compared to the "real Browning Hi Powers" as to the general public, FN is just not as well known as the Browning name in the US. In most parts of the world, the Hi Power is sold with FN markings.

FN decided not to import Hi Powers to the US due to the slow sales and their guns could be had at very good prices compared to the higher-priced-but-made-on-the-same-equipment-in-the-same-factory Browning-marked pistols.

This is not an unusual situation. Several years ago, Mauser was selling Hi Power pistols under their name that had been manufactured by FEG but fit and finish were to Mauser's specs.

Best.
