Are H322 and Benchmark suitable Cast Bulet powders in medium sized cases?

Hi guys do you H322 or Benchmark in medium sized cases for CB loads to produce moderate velocities?

e.g. 6.5x55, 30-30 or 375w.

Is there anything about these powders or situations that could make them behave odd in reduced loads? For example in the way H110 does.

H322 is at the opposite end of the spectrum for 6.5x55 IMO. Reloader 22 and slower (assuming 140gn bullets) is the standard and theres a bunch of other powders between them so I would say no just for the 6.5x55.

You may well be right. I am talking about a 138 grain cast bullet though, not a jacketed! H4198 is listed for cast bullets in the 6.5x55.

Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook! I don't see any of the above powders listed in the book. I'm not saying it will not work, just that you may need to invest in good litreature.

Guestamations rearding cast bullets may result in unsatisfactory results.

I have Lyman cast manual 3 and 4. I am trying to get more cast data.

I can handle unsatisfactory. I am just wanting to try and determine if reducing these powders is potentailly dangerous.

Hodgdon just give there standard answer for each inquiry I make use trailboss or h4895 for reduced cast loads.

From what I understand, slower powders end up building more pressure and may not be as suitable for the softer cast bullets. Lee's reloading manual touches on this.

Problem with the 6.5x55 is nothing fills it for cast apart from perhaps 50BMG powder and even that would need a filler to fill that case. I think the 6.5x55 is actually ovebore.

I was trying to find a sweet spot for it using cast around 1800-1900fps. As my desired 2100-2200fps just doesn't seem to be achievable past 100 yards.

I don't know how H322 will perform at 45% fill though. H4895 does okay at 41% and Varget at 55%.

Maybe I should just use the H322 in the 223.

Benchmark should be fine in the 30-30 jacketed lists go as low as 24 grains, 21-22 should be fine for cast.
