Are Lady Smiths JUST For Ladies?

I'd gladly take the Lady Smith. I don't see anything "unmanly" about a stainless gun with attractive wood grips.

Thank you for all of your opinions! Personally, I never had a problem with it - it just got me wondering where thehighroad members draw their lines.

Like any classy lady, the gun is very attractive. It has a brushed stainless finish, rosewood grips (but without the finger grooves like in the picture posted above), a 1 7/8 barrel, is only rated 38 special +P, and most important, there's NOT a trace of PINK anywhere on the gun! A 357 would have been nice, but I have a 686 to fulfill that need :D. Plus I've always thought that a 357 out of a snubbie was a little to "firebally" for personal defense.

Thanks again for posting! I think I'll keep the gun.

What difference does our opinions matter? You're going to be carrying the fool thing, you aren't going to ask us if its okay to shoot it are you? Take it, say thank you, and get on with your life.

Not a revolver, but one of my favorite 9mms "back in the day" was S&W 3919 "ladysmith". I'm secure enough in my manhood to carry one today (except for the fact that I never quite got used to the slide mounted, upside-down safety).

That "upside down safely" is called a decocker!

If it is of any interest, the original Ladysmith, a small, .22 caliber revolver, was brought out in 1902 and its name was at least partially inspired by the town in Africa (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Ladysmith) which was much in the news at the time. Of course, the coincidence of a small gun for "ladies" and the name "Smith & Wesson" were part of the hype.

(And they are tiny; the cylinders are about the same diameter as a quarter.)

If your dad is anything like my dad, it's a trick question.

You take the LadySmith and he punches you in the stomach. "The gun has Lady in the title Nancy, here's a reminder to be a man!" *Punch*

You take the $300 and he punches you in the stomach. "You'd take $300 from an old man, who takes care of the mother that raised you?!?!" *Punch*

Whatever you decide, keep your guard up. Just in case.

Hilarious. And true. I think it's a test, so just tell him that you don't need any of his crappy gifts and then punch HIM in the stomach.

Hahaha! I'm pretty sure that even though my dad would probably classify as an "old man," he's assured me that if I ever DO decide to throw a punch at him, he'd "Take me outta this world just as quick as he brought me into it."

If I can keep the gun, I might willingly take a punch in the gut.

If I had one, I'd carry it.

I remember seeing them years ago and thought it was a mistake for S&W to sell them exclusively for "ladies"--I thought they were pretty cool in their own right.

On the other hand, I'm sure a lot of guys bought them "for the little woman"--who may never have even existed, or if she did, never got to see the Ladysmith.

As long as you get a matching purse nobody will ever notice. Who cares if it's a Ladysmith? If I were in a spot where I needed a gun I wouldn't give a damn what it says.

I would like blued or ss more than pink as pink is too visible to suit me.

Seems most of us don't object to holding a Lady (Smith) in our hands, but to each his own. This gun fits my hands better than it fits my wallet, or I'd have one.

The one I used to have looked just like bigtubby's. I would say, however, that those original grips look better than they work, though, IMO. Too skinny for this guy.

Yes just for women. In fact it will not shoot if a man is trying to use it. Now for the serious answer it is a great little defensive tool. FOR ANYONE.

Have one it's terrific ...90's model with super action
Try to find one in .32 H&R , there going north of $750!

Unless the lady is pretty experienced and used to shooting something like that, I actually think it is fairly unsuitable for most ladies in terms of recoil. I hasten to say that I believe that ladies are capable of shooting any gun a man would shoot, but to me that gun is sort of marketed at first time shooters and it would not be what I would recommend to a first timer man or woman. If you are used to managing recoil, then go forth and be armed regardless of gender.

That aside, I briefly owned one, and I found it to be awesome. I am 6'1 and 390, and I didn't have any issues with it, nor do I think anyone would have made fun of me for having it. I sold it pretty quickly largely because I bought it specifically to resell, but it was a nice piece.
