Are the ergonomics of the S&W 659 and model 59 the same?

I checked out a well used S&W model 59 today at a gunshop and it fit my hand very well. Isn't the S&W 459 (blued) and 659 (stainless) just the next generation of the model 59? Do all of these models basically feel the same? Does the 59 have an all steel or alloy frame?

Thanks in advance

This is just my opinion, so here it is. I would never buy any auto loader made by Smith & Wesson ever. I would trust a sharp stick more.

The same. The changes from the 1st gen to 2nd gen S&W were mostly internal. Main difference is the 2nd gen guns had a firing pin block.
Both will fit in the same holster.

Both the 59 and 459 have alloy frames.

I just love informative and reasonable posts like that by Pappy109. Are you happy, Pappy?

Fine, that leaves more for me. :p I've owned several - 5904, M&P, 3913LS and a 6946, some new, some used - and all had one hundred percent perfect, flawless functioning.

i noticed that too...it must be a side effect of drinking the Glock Kool-Aid

the M-659 is a nice gun, but a bit heavier than the M-59. the 459 is the same as the 59, the 559 adds a steel frame, the 659 has a stainless steel frame and slide

I had a 3913 couple years ago It was a nice pistol and worked fine I am just not a big fan of 9mm so I traded it for a 1911.
If S&W made a sharp stick I would buy one I sure it would work very well also.

The 659 is all stainless but otherwise the same as a 59. It does weigh more. I carried a 659 for about 4 years and found the extra weight made it very easy to control. It was also one of the most reliable semi-autos I ever had.

Glock = Perfection. Oh sorry, was this a thread about S&W pistols? :D

The only S&W pistol I had the pleasure to shoot was a 5906 and it was quite nice. It had a solid feel to it and though a bit on the heavy side, the ergonomics were pleasant. It was also accurate and the owner claims it's as reliable as a pistol gets.

Every manufacturer is going to have some folks who, for whatever reason, don't much like their products. S&W is no exception.
