Are these cases safe to reload/shoot?

I loaded up these cases about a month ago but never shot them because I was unsure about the dent towards the neck of the case. I know that when you shoot them, small dents will disappear but what about these? Do these dents still fall under that category?

I have shot similar reloaded cases. Load moderately, look closely at the dents to be sure there are no punctures.

I would say the two on the outside of the photo are safe to shoot and the dents will fire-form to the chamber. The one in the center appears to be creased pretty bad and is suspect.

The question is, why are the getting dented that bad.

And more importently, how did they miss your case inspections and get loaded?

In general, dents that bad should have been discarded during the final case inspection before loading.

I discarded the one in the middle, that's why it's not loaded.

I loaded the two on the outside (knowing the dents were there) because I thought the dents were within reason. But just wanted to get some advice before I shoot them.

And it was range brass (LC) and picked it up like that.

Dents in the case shoulder area are really not all that uncommon, especially when fired from semi auto rifles like the M1, M14, etc.

I've reloaded and shot them without issue.

I'd be more concerned about picking up and using range brass (rifle). You dont know its history and where it stands in the end of life department. If your going to use them, I'd do a careful inspection and especially check the bases for signs of case head separations.

I gave up using military brass for reloading a long time ago, mostly due to it being more of a pain to reload, and its shorter life. Good commercial brass will usually out last the military brass by four or five loadings, as long as the case necks survive that long, and you dont have to deal with the primer issues.

Were the dents there before you resized them? Could be too much case lube. I might load and fire the one like the middle one with a light to moderate charge before discarding it.

They would have been OK to reload, all of them.

They are safe to reload but the case life might be a little shorter than undented brass.

I agree. With on caveat- as long as it chambers with the dents!

I agree with AK103K. I shoot a lot of 308 7.62x51 Nato in a M1A1 and AR10 along with M2 ball (30-06) in my M 1's. They all for the most part have dings.
