Are these ok to fire? 30-06

I just bought 400 rds of military surplus (according to the guy in the store they belonged to an old cuban guy that was waiting for a redo of the Bay of Pigs) of 30-06, according to him they were kept in 8 rd clips.

The headstap is LC 89 and they looked a little tarnished and with some dings. Are they ok to use? Are they ok to reload afterwards?

Yes, it should be perfectly fine ammo.

Too new to be corrosive, and not turned green with tarnish.
The dents are normal handling marks and will not hurt a thing.

You will have to ream or swage the primer pocket crimps before you can reload them.

I also agree that they're ok to fire. I saw several lots of the same date purchased by our CMP club a few years ago. BTW the scratches on your indicates they were loaded into M1 enbloc clips at some time.

They are Lake City 68, not 89. Should be very good if stored properly, at the very least it is very good quality brass for reloading.

Yep, '68 Lake City is fine ammo for reloading.

That is much sought after ammunition in some circles. Excellent brass. I have quite a bit of LC 68 brass that I'm still loading.

That is some good brass, I necked down some(100) LC68 to 25/06 back in 1970.... I wish I even had an idea of how many times that brass has been reloaded. I know it has seen over 20 loading plus! I also got some LC68 Match brass in that deal, it was even better! All for a handshake, very few deals like that today.

Those rounds look good to shoot, go for it, pick up every empty!!

I would shake the clandestine ammo to determine if the powder was loose or caked, the ammo that was used at the Bay of Pigs was said to be stamped BM with a late thirties or very early forties date.

These weren't supposed to be "from" the Bay of Pigs. The old guy was hoping for another invasion similar to the Bay of Pigs, only with a better outcome........

As a point of interest, the Bay of Pigs invaders were armed with M1 Garands, but the ammunition dropped to them for resupply was in 5 round stripper clips for the 1903 Springfield. They had to scramble around and pick up discarded 8 round enbloc clips and reload them. It was a pretty sad spectacle.

ok to fire
I have some LC 67 ammo, and i'm having problems with it. I think it's getting old. it will not pick up the second round in the clip. if the gun sits long enough to check the spotting scope it want pick up the second round of that try. I reloaded some 30-06 to try in the same M1 and there is no problem with my ammo. I tried to get a load that was as close to what every body thinks is the right load for the Garands. 47gr. of IMR4895 behind a 150gr. FMJ bullet.
The questoin?? pull the bullets and change out the powder or throw the primer and powder away and reload with new powder and # 34 primers??
