We have some of the ComBlock pistols like the CZ82, CZ52, Poish P64, etc...
We've even gotten some Argentine Hi-Powers that I believe were surplus from their military.

But do you guys think we'll ever really see a flood of surplus pistols come through? (like the way we saw with milsurp rifles).

I would love if we had racks and racks of old 1911's, or M9s all for $100-150/each.

Would the military distribute them through CMP?

And how about surplus from police departments all over the world. I mean, we have tons of police surplus pistols from this country, and we even got the Sig P6's in a while ago. But there are LOTS of countries with lots of police who have switched over from metal framed guns to polymer. Think we'll ever see them?

You can get police reconditioned Glocks and Sigs.

U.S. military? NOPE.

When I was in Germany, in 1992, we turned in our old 1911s for M-9s. I asked what would happen to them, and no one know. I was thinking, if I had a dozen 1911 frames, I could have a lot of fun. So being an E-2 with too much time on my hands, I started making phone calls. I got bumped to the Anniston Army Depot in LA, where I was told that there were no plans of any kind to release them to the public. They ger crunched.

As for M-9s, if the one I was issued (which is currently on my hip) is any indication, by the time the army throws them away......you don't want them. :)

Don't read this if you cry easily.

When the Air Force switched over from the S&W Model 15 to the Beretta M9, I started asking around about possibly purchasing one of the old Smiths. I'd carried a snubbie version under my flight suit for many years, and during the Gulf War they dug out some 'new' ones (new old stock) with a bit longer barrel. My hope was that they would allow us to purchase them for a nominal sum, like many police departments do.

They crushed them all. Some had never even been fired.

Gee,..we could suggest this to our elected officials as a means to reduce the deficit............

Wunder how far that'd get?

The thought of all those S&W 15's getting crunched has me somewhat misty eyed. I think I need a tissue and a nap.

I doubt it, unless there is a drastic change in the anti gun attitude of the average US citizen and a drastic overhaul of the US government.

The young are being so brainwashed in the public schools that guns are bad, even pointing a finger will get a young child sent home.

We will never again see the day when you can mail order a GI 1911 from the government ($17) and the post office delivers it to your house.

That's the way the military treats it's property in general. There was a movie made based on a true story about how the army was going to destoy hundreds or thousands of horses after they became obsolete (militarily). They burned hundreds of PT boats after WW2 or Korea. They destoyed Vietnam war K-9's (that ones a little moe understandable).

It's really a huge waste and discusts me. Someone else already mentioned it but we need to contact our elected officials to change this.

I've seen our Army waste so much it is sickening. Espesially with food.

I've seen them throw away ALOT of food. That food could have been sent to homeless shelters or soemthing useful. Instead they made us trash it. It was even still hot when it went in the dumpsters. Not even the crappy rubbery green eggs. It was good creamy shrimp and pasta alfredo. Just one example.

They'll use guns and other stuff until it's completely UNuseable, and then they keep using it. When they decide it's useless, instead it useable again, they scrap it. Probably melt them down and make new tools out of the metal... I HOPE that's what they do at least.

US milsurp? Probably not. The big opportunity would have been at the switch to the M9...and that bus has left the station.

Foreign milsurp is another matter. The Russians are known to hold enormous stocks of captured German arms they can't import due to a Voluntary Trade Restriction dating back to the Clinton regime. If that got spiked, the market would be flooded.

That being said, there is a good case for getting Congress to amend the CMP charter to allow them to dispose both of Foreign Aid pistols (the Army gave 1911s to foreign armies just like Garands) and surplus Federal law enforcement arms.

The first problem is that, as said, the politicians do not trust their constituents with guns and are sure not going to sell them back military weapons that their taxes paid for in the first place.

In the second place, you are totally unrealistic about the price, even if released.
I don't know why it is so common on the gun boards for people to think that they are owed cheap guns. Prices on guns are up, just like everything else.

I think they are making a correlation to the cheap Star BMs, Makarovs, P64, etc..... that hit the market for that price. I don't see why they assume that 1911s and Berettas would sell for the same though.

Not sure about the military surplus. However, Guns America does have some Israeli police Browning HP's posted for sale.

Also on GunBroker, from the same outfit. I bought one last week for $389 - should arrive in the next few days.

why would they destroy all those pistols?.......is there an actual reason or is it they just didnt know what to do with them.....

it seems to me that they could recoup a good chunk of change by reselling them to the general public........

Indeed they could, as they could have with everything they've destroyed. Apparently they don't trust Joe public though and it seems that it's their only reason for not selling to us.

Perhaps when they drop the M9. However, the majority of them are in poor condition and since they just ordered a ton more recently don't hold your breath. Police trade-ins trickle in from various departments.

You may have already bought one. That razor you're shaving with in the morning might have been a 1911A1 before Uncle Sugar sold it, it was melted down and is now a Gillette or a Schick.

The price was just an example.
I figured that when the Swiss rifles of such high quality hit the market in huge quantities, they were ~$100. So pistols might be approx the same.
The price was merely an example. I'd have no way to anticipate the actual market value.

LOL. Doubtful.
That razor I shave with is a Dovo straight razor from Germany.:D

By the way, great discussion guys. thanks.

didnt they already drop the M9......didnt they switch the the S&W M&P....?

My guess is that uncle sam might think that the cost of labor, shipping, processing might end up costing more than just crushing them or melting them. Not to mention that would be time taken away from other tasks.
